TROPES
Neutral Good
"In a ninja's world, those who violate the rules and fail to follow orders are lower than garbage. However, those who do not care for and support their fellows... are even lower than that!"
— Kakashi
The Character Alignment of sweetness and light. A Neutral Good character will usually comply with laws if doing so benefits the greater good, but rebel against those they consider unjust or which conflict with the greater good. Neutral good can be the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. Neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable. (This is only a fact if you're an Evil Overlord). Neutral good characters value freedom and will protect others' freedom as long as it's not used to do harm. A Neutral Good character is not too caught up in Order Versus Chaos; they are concerned with moral goodness, but often not willing to enforce it in others.
Beware the Nice Ones
Beware the fury of a patient man.
— John Dryden
Sometimes, the nicest person in the story gets pushed to the limit of what they can take; the results... are not pretty. The sweeter, gentler, more polite, and overall nicer a character is, especially if they're female, the worse it will be for the planet when their Berserk Button is struck. What was once a sweet and nice individual suddenly snaps and becomes something far worse than the Big Bad could have expected. It's called Unstoppable Rage for a reason, you know.
Things get even worse if they're a Technical Pacifist, and worse still if they're an Actual Pacifist, since outright villains will only kill you. If a sweet, gentle soul snaps, all you can do is pray for a quick death. This is also why pushing the Gentle Giant too far is generally a bad idea, and why Teaching Him Anger is a suicidal idea.
The Everyman
The Freeman excels in all things
— Half-Life 2
The Everyman really has no distinct personality, except what is defined by others' interactions with them. They are made to be empathetic to all. They won't be exceptional, they won't be particularly unexceptional, either. They are decidedly average or sometimes above the average, and if you try to pin down the character traits of any one of them - you'll probably come up blank. They are usually popular by association, in that they tend to interact and be friends with a large group of more interesting supporting characters.
Badass Normal
"There's nothing mere about that mortal."
— Joker, on the Batman in Superman the Animated Series
In A World with supernatural dealings or superpowers, this character is the one who is able to keep being useful through intellect, martial arts abilities, general ruthlessness, or just being Crazy Prepared. They notably have none of the fantastic enhancements, magic or special powers that others do. It might even be a sore point for them, but that just makes us encourage them more.
Sophisticated As Hell
"Profanity is the inevitable linguistic crutch of the inarticulate motherfucker."
— Hanzae, Konaha V1
Language is linear. Use and context establish tone, with an expectation for its continuation. When one suddenly uses a register, dialect, or vocabulary at a significant distance from that previously employed, the effect is frickin' weird.
There's a certain humour in playing with different levels of language use, and the common trick is to mix "sophisticated" language (such as Spock Speak or Antiquated Linguistics) with "unsophisticated" language (such as the Cluster F Bomb or Precision F Strike) with the necessary awkwardness on both sides.
