[/blockquote] personality With Kaito’s mother being forever placed in a world that was against her, the boy became brazenly immature, returning the world of youth and innocence to her. In some ways, his immaturity was caused by his remarkable maturity, as he became the way he was to save the one he loved. This bizarre conundrum of maturity was coupled with the child’s desire to earn money for his poor mother, marking the beginning of what would turn out to be a lifetime of astounding ambition. His loud mouth earned him much attention, accompanied by the attention his progression got him. For many years, Kaito was familiar to the feeling of being watched, as his early levels of advancement forced him into the public spotlight. Still, he remained the loving boy that cared deeply for his mother, spending any time off duty with her.
Once a Jōnin, Kaito’s duties began to take him away from his mother. As he grew further from her, she grew weaker, finally dying while Kaito was on a mission. Kaito’s personality took a notable shift at that point, as he blamed only himself for his mother’s poor condition that led to her death. For several years he lived in solitude, taking on a much more quiet and stoic persona. With the start of the second war and reformation of his special task force, Kaito’s personality was mended to new levels of innocence by Saoru, a woman he was quickly falling in love with. After having escaped an encounter that killed most of his team, Kaito learned to appreciate his circumstances and his life. This was short-lived, however, as he found himself once more unable to see the woman he loved. Unable to cope with the sudden absence of the woman who had purified his spirits, Kaito stepped into the public spotlight, becoming a recognized figure before travelling to Tsuchi no Kuni to fight in the war. Once there, the company of his small group kept Kaito from delving into the depths of depression, and his joking, carefree manner reigned supreme at last as he forgot about the losses he had faced to get to that point.

recognition map
Kaminari no Kuni | Through his teenage years, Kaito’s abilities were held in high esteem by a large portion of the village. For the following several years, his fame decreased due to operating covertly. He was one of six that was given the most prestigious title of member of Kinkaku Butai due to his high standing with the Sandaime Raikage. With this title came fables and myths surrounding his name, making him one of the most famous in the country. Especially since Saoru’s rise to power, Kaito has managed to maintain remarkably high standings with the leaders of his village.
Hi no Kuni | Likely one of the most undesired shinobi, Kaito spent ten years of his life operating mainly to weaken the fire country’s armies. As a leader in Kumogakure’s attempts to stop Hi no Kuni’s expansion into Tsuchi no Kuni, various areas in Hi no Kuni have harbored bounties for Kaito’s head.
Mizu no Kuni | Despite playing a key factor in Mizu no Kuni’s heavy losses in the Second Shinobi War, Kaito’s identity went unknown, earning him little to no legacy in the water country.
Tsuchi no Kuni | Kaito’s home of the past few years, Tsuchi no Kuni recognizes him in a manner opposite to Hi no Kuni. Especially amongst the peasant villages on the borders between Tsuchi no Kuni and Hi no Kuni, Kaito has built up a reputation as something of a savior. Whilst many of his operations went unnoticed by the land, it is not uncommon for people of the country to recognize his name and trials.
Kaze no Kuni | Having little to no interaction with Kaze no Kuni, the only word the country would have of Kaito would be from the tales of his adventures in Tsuchi no Kuni.
notable relationships
Mother | Whilst her identity remains officially unknown, Kaito spent the nineteen years he had with his mother being a very loving child. Without her, his ambition and loving heart would never have been born. Even a decade after her death, Kaito still struggles with his loss.
Sandaime Raikage | Kaito was recognized early by the Sandaime, earning him a spot on his hand-picked covert team that answered to the Raikage rather than the village as a whole. Many years later, Kaito was honored as a member of Kinkaku Butai, yet another group hand-picked by the Sandaime.
Yondaime Raikage | Publicly, Kaito has never been known to have met Saoru. Secretly, Kaito served under her as a member of Bakemono. On the group’s second tour of duty, the two’s relationship became passionate. After the group was disbanded, Saoru was promoted, forcing the two apart.
Second Shinobi War group | Once Bakemono had been forever disbanded, Kaito took a group of fifteen on a multi-year tour in Tsuchi no Kuni. Losing only five, Kaito grew very close with the shinobi.

history [extended] The surname of the shinobi known as Kaito goes unknown, as do his parents. The byproduct of forced sex, Kaito was born to a single mother that was traumatized by the tragic incident. As such, the mother was unable to show the affection she felt towards the child. Still, Kaito was very wise for his age. Growing up, he became the person he needed to be. Through his mature wisdom, he became childishly immature, returning a feeling of innocence to his mother. He also strived to fulfill the necessity of a powerful male figure. While initially a laughable proposition, the desire of the child to become the man of the house would come to fruition much sooner than anticipated.
With his adept wisdom, Kaito became a natural student, his attitude and dedication amplifying his superior’s opinion of his abilities. This became especially evident two years after becoming an Academy Student, when the eight year old was promoted to the rank of Genin. His determination to grow stronger and provide a source of income for his “peasant mother” pushed him to take on as many missions as possible. Due to the sheer amount of missions he undertook, Kaito spent no more time with his officially listed team than he did many other teams, as he was forced to switch teams temporarily while his former teammates took breaks between taxing missions.
In order to maintain such a strenuous schedule, Kaito was forced to learn the art of chakra control. By never wasting his much needed energy, the young boy could easily perform two missions and recover in the time his teammates took for one mission and the following recovery period. During his recovery period, Kaito ensured to maintain a strong bond with his mother, who still suffered from a decade-long battle with depression. Not wanting to her status as a lower class peasant to hold her overachieving son back, the mother insisted on her identity being shrouded in secrecy. As such, the higher up’s did not see Kaito’s determination as a product of love, but rather of the desire for achievement. Believing the experience would cause the child to grow, Kaito was persuaded into participating in the Chūnin Exams at the age of ten. Due to the recent end of the First Shinobi War, many Genin were placed into the tournament with the hopes of increasing Kumogakure’s strength through an unusually large number of promotions. Amongst the many promoted to Chūnin was Kaito, the boy that had stunned the judges with his unmatched sense of reservation and chakra control.
The Chūnin quickly took advantage of his heightened level of recognition, using his recent promotion to force his way into higher ranked missions. Whilst initially somewhat of a liability as a young Chūnin, Kaito did not take long to repeat the process of improvement that had jumpstarted his days as a Genin. His talents were put to good use, as instead of short missions, he was assigned to the missions that required much more distance and time. Whilst serving as the village’s cross-country mission runner, the depression that had been staved off by the spirited young boy began to creep back into his mother. Unlike his days as a Genin, Kaito’s long missions forced him to be with the same people for extended amounts of time, producing a vast number of positive relationships. With his shinobi and social lives finally synced, Kaito’s loving personality earned him many friends, including the highly recognized Jōnin that frequently traveled with him.
Having friends in high places proved bountiful for Kaito’s career. Due to the extreme extent at which his abilities in chakra control surpassed the rest of his abilities, Kaito was promoted, becoming a Tokubetsu Jōnin at age thirteen. Promised with the possibility of promotion once he had achieved some sort of nature manipulation, Kaito was forced to open his eyes to other areas of shinobi expertise. Still, through his veil of ambition, he could see his mother struggle with her solitude. Striving to comfort his permanently scarred mother, Kaito took an extended “period of training,” still keeping to his mother’s wish of keeping her identity a secret. For two years, life slowed down for the first time since the boy was six. During this time, Kaito became well-rounded, not only in his combat abilities, but also in his heart and mind. Convinced he must have no weakness, Kaito determined he was not going to teach himself something that already had a determined weakness. As such, he chose not to explore nature manipulation, but rather spatial manipulation.
More so than ever before, Kaito exhausted himself. The process of learning techniques made purely of chakra forced him to constantly diminish his energy, learning how to utilize his chakra through experimentation. Still wanting to remove all weaknesses from his abilities, he stayed in touch with those he had met during his many missions. While he had the services of many superiors teaching him each aspect of combat, Kaito was only able to achieve enough skill in Genjutsu and Taijutsu to properly defend himself. Unable to utilize either to a suitable standard, Kaito was forced to look into finding specializations fitting for his level of chakra control. He was offered the apprenticeship of a renowned Iryōnin, but accepting the position would have meant the young man would be away for over a year learning the trade, which was decidedly too long away from his mother. He denied the offer, instead settling on learning how to utilize his chakra control in a fashion similar to sensor-type shinobi.
With his mother in good health, the ability to perceive nearby people through their chakra, and a more rounded base of abilities, Kaito determined himself ready to resume his role as the efficient monster. For the next year, the young man grew both in size and ability as he was almost constantly fulfilling missions. He completed a likely unmatched number of missions that year, culminating in the sixteen year old becoming a full-fledged Jōnin. The next three years flew by in a blur of missions, training, and the occasional vacations taken to spend time with his mother. As he approached nineteen, however, his duties began to consume all of his time and his mother was left to herself. Once nineteen, the Sandaime honored Kaito with a spot on a newly formed task force: Bakemono. Headed by the Sandaime’s granddaughter, Saoru, the ten-man team was unknown to all but the Raikage. Meant to never be found out, Kaito was forced to learn the maneuvers of stealth operations.
Once ready, the group moved to purge the land of rebels, and Kaito’s talents came to full fruition. Able to sense the outlying rebel shinobi that were on patrol, he moved with Saoru to eliminate the perimeter before the full frontal assault was launched. With the rebel base being underground, Kaito was able to describe the hallways and rooms by observing the movements of each person beneath the team. After strategic planning, explosives were planted in key points. Whilst the explosives went off, the team awaited the fleeing rebels at their sole remaining exit. The leader of Bakemono, Saoru, managed to force them to the oceanfront to avoid any civilian detection. That night, fifty shinobi battled ten. After hours of fighting, the group managed to exhaust their opponents, at which point Kaito’s chakra conservation and control became the most valuable abilities to have. Four of the Bakemono were killed that night. No rebel survived. The bodies were burnt and all traces of the base were removed. Upon returning, the group was temporarily split.
Kaito returned home to tragedy. Her immune system compromised by her weak will, Kaito’s mother had succumbed to illness. The events that transpired for the next five years went unheard by anyone but Kaito himself. Becoming as seen as a ghost, the few times Kaito was seen by others, he was notably older and more serious. He grew to hate himself as he realized his mistake; his mother never was in need of money. She was in need of love. Having failed to give that to her for the past couple of years, Kaito placed the blame on himself. His rage became a weapon as his techniques became decidedly more offensive and explosive. After spending five years in solitude, Kaito was approached by an old acquaintance, Saoru. The world was beginning to fall into the depths of war, and Bakemono was being reformed. With nothing left to keep him in Kumo, Kaito accepted the position once more, wanting to leave the place that held so many memories.
The group took form, spying, assassinating, and sabotaging their way through the land. With the Kirigakure shinobi in Hi no Kuni, the Bakemono accomplished the task of destroying weapon convoys, thus creating a crippling shortage of weapons for the army. As the team changed the world around them, so too did Kaito begin to change. The misery that had consumed him in previous years was beginning to be washed away by the positive influence of Saoru. Despite both having a strong sense of duty, their relationship of nurturing quickly became a relationship of passion. Amongst secret missions was a secret love affair; the couple tiptoeing around both the world and their own teammates. With Kumo officially entering the war, the group became less fearful of detection and subsequently more active. Their success was cut short, however.
Somehow, whether it was a mole in the group or spies, one of Bakemono’s operations became known. In a massive ambush, each member of Bakemono was faced with tens of enemies. The group attempted to escape, but only three, Kaito and Saoru included, managed to live through the ordeal. Upon returning to the village, the Raikage determined it was too dangerous to keep the group active, and thus issued the permanent disbandment of Bakemono despite the objections of the remaining group. Just like before, the disbandment of Bakemono was followed by the loss of love for Kaito. Saoru became Commander of the Close Combat Division, sending her far and away. The Sandaime was quick to realize the loss of heart in the man, and soon presented him with a valuable golden battle horn. The personal gift lifted Kaito’s spirits, and signified the start of Kinkaku Butai, a group of six shinobi with the fabled strength to defeat armies on their own, recognized as the greatest heroes of Kumogakure.
Back in the public spotlight for the first time in nearly a decade, Kaito began to use his influence to motivate the forces in Kumogakure. Soon, however, he realized that the land reminded him of his mother. Deciding that he needed to take his fight elsewhere, he began to contemplate his options. He was assigned an army to take to Hi no Kuni, yet he refused. While Kaminari no Kuni reminded him of the lost love of his mother, Hi no Kuni reminded him of the lost love of Saoru. Instead, Kaito decided it was time to come full circle. Like he had done hundreds of times growing up, he requested that he be sent across countries on a long, taxing mission. Having grown comfortable with small groups rather than armies, Kaito was given the privilege of handpicking fifteen shinobi to take with him. Once ready, the group set out to Tsuchi no Kuni, appeasing the Daimyō and his original fear of Hi no Kuni’s expansion into the country.
For the remainder of the war, Kaito and his men operated in a similar fashion to Bakemono. They sabotaged roads in front of Konoha’s armies, snuck behind enemy lines to cut supply lines, and performed night abductions, all with the intents and purposes of destroying enemy morale. The group managed to operate as a well-oiled spying machine, as well, frequently sending men back to the generals to provide vital intelligence. Impressively, Kaito only lost five of his men during the course of the war. For years, Kaito sent messengers to Saoru, the nature of the sending and receiving forcing the messages to be strictly information. For years, Saoru was unaware that it was even Kaito that was the author of these messages, and yet he was deep in Tsuchi no Kuni, with a love that was forced to be buried even deeper. After five years of stalling Konoha’s progress into Tsuchi no Kuni, the war ended. A few weeks later, Kaito finally received a message from Saoru informing him that the war was over and that he was to return home. At the bottom was a signature.
“Yondaime Raikage.”
