[ MENTAL ANALYSIS ]
Naoto is a complex individual constantly wavering between the extremes of bratty immaturity and the stoic demeanor of a war veteran. An enigma of a persona impossible to read with a vocabulary containing every profanity ever uttered. His work ethic is nearly nonexistent as he does the bare minimum required for a task. Strangely enough though he always manages to do exceptionally well without trying very hard. No matter the situation, Naoto rarely takes anything completely seriously and can find something to snark at even in the most inappropriate times. A ticking time bomb with a pathetically short fuse he has little to no patience for other people and even less understanding. Over the years he's developed profoundly thick skin as far as sensitivity goes and can usually maintain a facade of indifference. Despite this temperament he shows a vast amount of loyalty, kindness, and generosity to those he truly feels he can rely on. However, Naoto's own pride is his biggest encumbrance; something he'll likely never completely outgrow.

[ HISTORIC INFO ]
[Chapter 00- Prologue]
In the eyes of the community Naoto could not have picked a finer womb to crawl out from.
Uchiha Suzumi was not only clan leader, but one of the most decorated Shinobi in the leaf. Commonly referred to as "The Iron Dragon of Konoha" her prowess with taijutsu and iconic kuchiyose became infamous. She was known for her brilliance as well as being ruthless and eccentric. Her name was put forth for consideration of the title Hokage though she turned it down vehemently, preferring to be left to her own devices rather than "babysitting a village" as she called it. Since she was a child it was known that something was not quite right with her mind, yet this was overshadowed by her obvious intelligence. It was played down as "eccentricities" by the clan who refused to accept the fact that there might be something wrong with their only heiress. Being the backbone of the strongest clan in Konoha as well as the face most young kunoichi pictured as someone they'd want to emulate granted her certain liberties. Her standing in the village, the face that represented the Uchiha clan as a whole, was precious to the elders. It was decided that her reputation must be preserved at all costs. She could get away with almost anything within the walls of the Uchiha Ichizoku and have it hushed by the elders. It was only when she realized this that problems began to arise.
Her husband Shigeru was another story.
Almost ten years younger than Suzumi, Shigeru's love for her was purely based on admiration. He was infatuated with the idea of being with one of Konoha's most celebrated Shinobi though when he got to know the woman behind the name he was slowly disillusioned. Yet he was a timid man. An average looking self-loathing Chunin without any remarkable talent or skill who believed he could never do any better than her. Though she treated him with nothing but contempt Suzumi stayed with him. Whether it was because she felt some twisted form of "love" toward him or because she knew he would obey her is unknown. Shigeru himself never found the strength to leave and eventually they ended up with their first child. A little girl they named Nanami.
The Uchiha heiress attempted to live up to the standard set by her mother. Growing up she witnessed her father's mistreatment escalate to a physical level. Nanami developed a close bond with him and told him she was going to get strong enough to protect him. He laughed and told himself he only had to endure a few more years. Just long enough for her to be alright without him.
Until their second child was born when Nanami was five.
[/End Prologue]
Luckily for Naoto he was born during a time when the tensions between the villages was slowly coming to a climax. Suzumi was gone away for months at a time on high ranking missions. During this time his father, sister, and himself experienced relative normalcy. It was during these lurches of time where the eldest member of the household was gone that Naoto's best memories lay. His father took him to play with the son of one of his best friends and old teammate, a Hyuga boy named Hayaku. Their friendship continued to flourish when Naoto was entered into the academy at age seven. Whenever Suzumi returned home Naoto spent as much time as possible over there. It seemed that with each mission and the more stress she was put under the more unhinged emotionally Suzumi became. Shigeru was careful to conceal the nature of their home-life from anyone, even his best friend. He instructed his children to do the same. They obeyed.
"Stay away from your mother."
Became the unspoken rule of the household. Fortunately Suzumi focused all of her energy on Nanami and mostly forgot she even had a son. She became her target and Shigeru unwittingly allowed his daughter to be the scapegoat by doing nothing. The only thing he would tell her was to stay strong and tough it out until she became a Chuunin. Naoto would see his sister crying all the time, though he was too young to fully understand the reasons. He spent his early childhood mostly happy. He was popular in the academy with the other children and his teachers had nothing but good things to say about him. The same couldn't be said for his sister. Nanami would be taken away by Suzumi each time she returned home from a mission for specialized one-on-one training sessions. After these sessions he began to notice her well being deteriorate. She stopped eating. She stopped speaking to anyone. It appeared as if she had just completely shut down. The heiress had soon failed her academy graduation exam which not only disgraced the entire clan but was sure to invoke the fury of its leader.
That same night, as Naoto returned from playing with Hayaku, he arrived home to find a commotion. His sister had killed herself. The only message left behind was a note apologizing to her father. His mother was away in Kaminari no Kuni though when she returned Suzumi blamed Shigeru for her daughter's suicide. It was only after Nanami's death that he was first old enough to realize something was wrong with her. Sometimes she would be the kind caring motherly figure that beamed with pride at him. Other times that woman was nowhere to be found, replaced by a violent lunatic with an empty expression in her eyes. With his mother's behavior now growing even more erratic accompanied with his sister's passing, the clan elders could no longer turn a blind eye. Suzumi's status as clan leader was up for reevaluation. However by this point Konohagakure was on the cusp of war as relations with neighboring villages grew ever more shaky. In the end nothing became of it as it was decided now was not the right time to change leadership.
With his sister gone Naoto was forced to abandon a relatively carefree life as he was expected to fill her shoes. Now the Uchiha heir his mother took over his training and started by forbidding him to see his friend Hayaku, deeming it an unnecessary distraction. The rivalry between their two clans also slowly built to where their friendship was ruined and they began to compete with one another at the academy. It was due to his mother's extensive training Naoto was able to learn the Gokakyuu no Jutsu at a young age and be formally recognized as an adult. Though it pleased her to see that her son had more natural talent than her daughter, her cruelty toward him was no less severe.
As fate would have it he'd escape her.
By the time he was almost nine years old the villages were at war and both of his parents were called away. His mother took up the mantle as one of Konoha's Generals. Shigeru became a member of a smaller ambush unit.
The next five years of his life was a complete blur. His class was hurried through the academy at a quick pace causing him to graduate early. He was partnered with Hayaku, another girl, and a newly appointed Jonin. The pair of them were the top two Genin in their class. It was thought that their combined strength would be enough to make up for lack of experience and rushed graduation. Over the course of the war the team assisted in a variety of tasks ranging from retcon to setting traps for enemy forces. Only once did they wind up in the fray and it was during that battle Naoto gained his sharingan but lost his sensei. How he survived is still a mystery to him, though it was revealed they were saved by a medic in a squad sent to scout the area for survivors.
When the war ended he received the news with mixed feelings. Both of his parents returned alive. His mother more famous than she already was but she was comatose and gravely injured. His father, over the course of it, summoned a strength he didn't even realize he had and was impressive enough to finally attain the rank of Jonin he'd long sought after. Shigreu took up position as temporary Uchiha clean leader whilst Suzumi was placed in the hospital. Naoto inherited her summoning scroll and sword as it was assumed that she'd be expected to retire if she ever managed to recover. Now that the war ended both Naoto and Hayaku were assigned a new sensei.
