Brief History: Sio was born to Sarutobi Agimaru and his childhood teammate, Domura Ringo. The best way to describe them would be a happy family in the most delicate of balances. But when Sio was 3 years old, Agimaru was killed while on a mission, along with the rest of his squad. The already-unstable Ringo went into a tailspin of madness at this point and became increasingly dangerous and abusive toward her only daughter. Unable to look at her, she would banish Sio to the basement. The child was beaten for the most minor of infractions, such as spilling a cup of water, or coming upstairs before her mother wanted her to. She threatened the child, humiliated her and refused to let her flourish. When Konohamaru and Moegi would come to visit, Ringo would dress her in pretty new clothes that hid her bruises. She would hold her on her lap, let her eat what she wanted and play outside. She would tell her how much she loved her. And Sio only lived for the moments that Grandma and Grandpa would come to visit because it was the only time her mother was nice to her. But outside the range of prying eyes, she ate the scraps of food Ringo was done with. She wore the same dirty clothes over and over. And she only saw light for a few hours a day.
This would go on for nearly four years before Konohamaru became suspicious that his granddaughter did not seem to be growing, learning and was not enrolled in school. He would learn of Sio's treatment, and removed her from the home. Now seven years old, Sio had a lot of adjustment to do. She could not read or write, and her eyes were underdeveloped from living in the dark. She was underweight and malnourished, and had night terrors. She couldn't even be hugged without flinching, and when asked if she wanted to go visit her mother, she would run and hide and hit herself. Her mother did little to help these matters, even attempting to steal her daughter back, showing up places that Sio and Moegi went for the day. She finally had to be incarcerated for the well-being of her child.
Now being raised by her grandparents, she began to improve bit by bit. It would be two years before she was even at the point where they could consider schooling. By then, she was nine, reading and writing, and becoming socially accepting. Konohamaru and Moegi were working with her at home, teaching her the basics of chakra control and Taijutsu. But instead of enrolling her right away in Ninja Academy, though, Konohamaru would appeal to Naruto to take her under his apprenticeship. As Sio developed her own personality, he began to see the limits of how he could help her. He saw similarities between her and his own mentor, and felt that Naruto would be better for her development. For six years, she would train under the Hokage, and they were happy times. Despite her questionable start, she showed a lot of aptitude toward being a ninja, and it gave her the confidence that she needed as well as focus to find the inner peace she would need to fight the demons that dwell within her. And in training with her, Naruto saw the future, himself, and knew what it would be that he would have to do when that time came.
At the age of fifteen, Naruto made the decision to have Kurama sealed into Sio, thus ending his own life. The decision was made to avert the possibility that he might die preemptively and the fox be released and need to be subdued, putting the village at risk. Sio was devastated that her sensei and friend would be leaving her, and was even moreso that she would become the Jinchuuriki for the nine-tailed fox bijuu, but she understood what Naruto was trying to do, and what he wanted of her, and so she obliged, promising that she would be strong and make him proud. This makes Sio the fourth Jinchuuriki of Kurama, and the first living,non-Uzumaki true Jinchuuriki.
