Keeping up his pace with the others byoki had wondered how the old man Taikichi was holding up. He seemed to have a great deal of strength regardless of his age. This man is very interesting byoki thought remembering the talk of dragons and spirits and all sorts of thing he couldn't begin to understand.
So maybe try to explain to me again Taikichi what is it you doing for a living? You talk to spirits?
Byoki had been rather interested in the small tidbits of information Taikichi had shared with them over their last day of travel. They had already traveled a full day and camped for the night, and now it was the next day almost reaching midday the sweltering desert was almost unbearable. The company did make it far better yet still not much could be done to escape the oven that byoki felt like he was in, other then continuing on their path.
How much longer till we are out of this desert byoki thought as he removed his jacket trying to stay cooler in the weather.

Taikichi looked over at Byoki as they went, having done his ritual previously, he was ready in the case of an attack on their little caravan.
"Pretty much, talk to the dead, spirits, general easing of the passing for others---for a fee... Though I'm working on a book as well"
He said as they made their way around Serpent Stab Pass, an area in the desert that was known for its hazardous wildlife.

The hot sun beat down upon the sands creating a very uncomfortable walk for Kou, at least until he took his shirt off. Putting it in his pack he pulled out some shades before tossing his bag back over his shoulder. Throwing his arms behind his head quietly walked ahead of the other two letting them have their chat. In truth they were a pretty boring duo, all they do is talk about spirit this... spirit that. It all sounded cool at first when he could see the spirits, now it was getting kinda lame.
Yawning he stretched his arms outward letting his body bask in the sun a bit as he walked. Even though it was extremely dry in this country, Kou had to admit the sun felt great. Though he could not help but to start thinking of his next adventure after getting home, who knows maybe this venture will turn out in his benefit. That was all a part of how Kou like to live life, living the adventure every day to get your adrenaline pumping. Once more he placed his arms behind his head minding his own business lost in his own thoughts.

Byoki could tell the weather was getting to all of them in some way, but at least kou seemed to be nejoying himself. Byoki looked to Taikichi wondering what the old man's intentions were in this great adventure he had talked about. Byoki was unsure where exactly he was going but he didn't want to be rude and ask such a prying question.
Looking towards the environment byoki had wondered how much further their journey to konoha would be.
I don't mean to change the subject but i there is something i have been wondering for some time. Kou, may i ask you is there ways your village possesses to help someone remember the past? Maybe even something they themself had forgotten?

Kou stopped suddenly upon hearing Byoki's question pausing for a moment before turning his head back to look at him tilting his sun glasses down with one hand.
"Yeah. Think their called... the Yamanaka clan, they do things to mess with peoples heads..."
Speaking in response to the question Kou realized something about when they first met, raising an eyebrow he turned completely around. With his other hand on his side he pulled the glasses of, pointing them at Byoki as he spoke to him.
"Now that I think about it. Something you did when we first me reminded me of them... when you shook my had, I got all these feelings... ones that were not mine..."

Taikichi kept the pace, listening to the both of them. He was half way paying attention, as he was deep in his own thought speaking to the spirits within the totems.
"These two, something is different about them. Should we take them with us? Gama only knows you could use the help. But that would be risking their lives in a danger that is not theirs. It isn't ours either, Taikichi-kun... But it is our path, our sworn duty... To protect the realms of man, and the realms of the spirits...
You all bicker way too much"
Came the multitude of thoughts between the old man, and the six spirits bound to him and active at this moment. As the other two spoke, and traveled, Taikichi would stop, raising an eye brown and looking off into the distance. He felt it, the wind was changing a bit, a light breeze was beginning to pick up.
"Boys..."
He said and he turned back to look at where they had come from, then turned back to them.
"RUN!!!!!!!"
He called, and took off, as in the far distance behind them, travelling towards them was a large wall of sand, and wind. A sandstorm, sweeping through the desert as they were known too. As he took off forward, running at speeds that were faster then even the fastest in these parts could keep up with. He slowed a bit so they could keep up with him, realizing the dragons power and his spirits were amplifying his speed greater then usual.
"Tomei----find us some cover, we cant outrun this---not with them"
He thought to the eagle spirit, as the feather glowed and a being made of chakra came to life from it, turning into a glowing blue spirit of an eagle which took off into the sky and flew off faster ahead of them.

Boys.... run....
Byoki heard the words as Taikichi started to run past them, holding his bag firmly byoki took off in a dead sprint. Pressing his senses out he scanned ahead as well.
The eagle soared through the sky at breakneck speeds quickly creating a giant gap of distance between them.
Quickly this way byoki said as he jumped passed several boulders using them as stepping stones and following the chakra signature of the eagle.
The bird is over there byoki said pointing ahead of them as he gracefully jumped from boulder to boulder.
Across on open plateau sat the bird bathed in its magnificent chakra, byoki was unsure what he was seeing but the power of its chakra guided him like a lighthouse guides a boat through the storm. Fifty meters across this plateau the bird was swooping nearby to what looked like a cave of some kind.
Taikichi byoki said your eagle found something, a cave i think. Byoki said as he continued his speed moving towards the cave.
The sandstorm or whatever it was, was approaching them fast if they didn't hurry they would be entangled in its power before they could reach the cave.

"Oh. Crap"
Kou had turned to see the wall of sand rushing toward them when the old man yelled. Moving quick he followed Byoki to the boulders to get a better view of where they were. If he remembered right there was a cave around here somewhere, it was a place that he had discovered with his cousin when he visited. In fact he remembered a time they hid there when a sand storm hit, so it should provide them all with enough cover.
"Sweet... thats a bad ass bird"
He said as he noticed the old mans pet flying through the air, upon hearing Byoki yell about a cave Kou smiled. There was no doubt about it, those were the caves he remembered from so long ago. Instantly he took the lead as he rushed to get to the caves, he figured the others would be following him so he did not waste time with looking back.

Taikichi could hear the voice of Tomei in his mind, as she sounded peeved by the guys comments about the spirit.
"Tomei would like me to remind you boys, that she is not a bird, she is the spirit of an eagle"
He said, as they made to the entrance of the cave right as the sandstorm blew over them. Taikichi ducking inside and dusting himself off, as the eagle spirit hovered over him. Tomei glowed briefly before turning into a ball of energy and disappearing back into the feather stuck in Taikichi's hair.
"These sandstorms have been known to last weeks, lets hope this one is done by morning---even though its barely midday"
He said, muttering the last bit.

Byoki quietly scanned the are inside the cave pushig out with his senses. The wind howled at the mouth of the save lessening byoki ability to hear but none the less he was content to be out of the storm and out of the sun as well. His mind gently stirred about what Kou had said moments before the storm had interrupted their conversation.
This name Yamanaka i have heard it before, you say these people can search my mind to help me remember my past?
Byoki calmy asked, he sat down after a few moments giving Kou however much time he needed to answer his question.

Before the others even came in Kou quickly maneuvered deeper into the cave. Memories rushed to his head as he noticed some marks on the walls that they had made. Brushing his hand gently over them a smile came over him before he turned away. Walking a bit further he found the nook where they always made their camp when they were young. The darkness made it difficult to see making him have to squint his eyes to peer around the nook.
There was an old fire pit with a small chest sitting to the side of it where they kept the fire stuff. Walking over he began to pull things out to get a fire going, setting some logs into the pit he heard Byoki asking him a question. Using his lighter he was about to light some old paper on fire when he looked up with a plain look to his face before answering.
"Yes... They can look into your mind..."
Fire ignited in the pit bringing light to the area so they can get comfortable until the storm let up. Kou gave a bigger smile as he watched the flames dance in the pit before he spoke again.
"...its kinda creepy if you ask me, just sayin"

Taikichi nodded, he had heard of the Yamanaka, namely during the 4th shinobi war. Other then the mind abilities he didn't know much else about them.
"More Konoha weirdness if you ask me"
He said in one of those "I am from before your time" kind of ways, back when Konoha had a lot of weird things going on with it.

Byoki decided to change the topic seeing as how the other to showed a disinterest in the topic anyways. There would be time for when he arrived in konoha at least. Thinking back to what Taikichi had said some time before Byoki started to wonder where it was that Taikichi's adventure would be taking him to.
So Taikichi, if it would not be rude to pry may i ask... where it was your adventure would be taking you?
Byoki said unsure if the question would be asking to much, Taikichi had mentioned it was a mission of danger. So you could only assume that it might be secretive as well. Taikichi did reside in the desert and he had great skills to say the least, it would be wise to be careful with what questions Byoki asked. Especially if Taikichi owed allegiances to one of the Shinobi villages byoki had heard so much about.

Smiling at what the old man said Kou slowly fed the fire to get it to the right size. He had to admit so far this trip home was turning out to be better then the rest of the adventure had been. Taking a seat close to the fire Kou picked up an old stick to poke at the fire as he watched the flames.
"Yeah. I would let them touch my brain... then again I like my brain how it is"
Speaking to no one in particular he let out a sigh as he sat listening to the other two talk. It was interesting at times to hear what all they talked about, but when Byoki mention an adventure his eyes perked up looking first at Byoki then toward the old man. This was something he wanted to hear, cause life in Konoha was not all that exciting in his eyes.

He looked over at Byoki, and then at Kou. They weren't his country-men, weren't his family, nor people he really knew all that well. They were strangers heading in the same direction. He didn't think it wise to involve them in the big league stuff he was into at the moment, they probably weren't ready for what he was involved in.
"If I told you, the truth...
You'd probably wind up dead with that information..."
He said, in a kind of "You're both much younger then myself, so wont understand the kind of stuff going on" kind of way.
"Though I will tell you a story... one which myths and legends come to life, and the world is not what you see..."
He said, as he came over by the fire. He stomped a foot on the ground. causing, three boulders to jut up around the fire pit. They didn't come fully out of the ground, which was fine, they were just seats. A trick he could do, thanks to Dao, the bull spirit currently residing in the horn hanging at his side. He would sit down and pull a pipe out of his pack, slinging it off to the side of the boulder. Lighting the herbs packed in the pipe, he took a low drag and slowly breathed the smoke out through his nostrils.

Byoki listened greatly interested in the words of Taikichi. Taking a seat on one of the boulder seats just created by Taikichi with great interest at how exactly the man did it.
Sitting quietly he waited for the story told by the old man to unfold. Peering across the cave with his hollow glare, stratching for a moment at the cloth that covered his eye sockets he leaned more comfortably into the stone seat.
Feeling the flicker of heat from the fire he pulled some rations from his pack then shared them with the men if they excepted the gesture.

After he was sure the fire would last Kou finally took a seat on one the rocks placed around the fire by Taikichi. Placing a hand on his belly as he felt it growl in hunger Kou was about to say something when Byoki started pulling out food. Taking it he thanked them both before he began to eat, listening to the others talk. Sounds of the winds made it difficult at times, but he caught most of what they were saying.

THEME MUSIC
He would look at them, before turning his eyes into the flames. Deep in the heart of the fire, he saw the past, saw his words coming to life. And so his tale began.
"In a distant time... the realm was all of one make, spirit and man coexisted in harmony.
This peace, last for ages untold, and in times of strife both would band together against a common enemy. As the world turned and grew older, man walked further and further from the spirits...
Like a father, having to leave his son behind, man went and did not look back. The child would grow and spread, his reach going deep and far, into the ancient places of the world.
When the father would return his son would be gone, and there would be something unfamiliar to him in its place...
Our world has taken much the same path, few of us walked with the spirits, so as they separated from us and grew in their own power, few of us know to be part of it...
You see, we are all one...man, spirit, myths, all part of the same tree that grew many ages ago..."
He said, as his vision went back to the very tree, with the flower that almost swallowed the moon.
"This tree had many branches, and from it many lives began, beings of great power, wisdom and courage came forth...and some darker ones came to be... as these beings grew so too did their power...
But the greatest of all beast, was always the Dragon...
King of the sky and beast, The Great Dragons protected the world from afar, watching and guiding us as they could, until we forgot them...
There were few who looked to them for wisdom and in turn, were given potent powers of the Dragons ilk... In time even these would fade from memory..."
He would say, taking a dragon in his pipe after he lit it up again.
"It wasn't until as chance would have it, a boy is rescued by a dragon, and not just any...but the Dragon God... This great being asked but one favor of the boy, to complete what was given him when the great being came to call...
The boy would grow to be a man, who walked in two worlds... Half alive, and half spirit, to become the next Buddha on earth... But in the time between when the Dragon left, bad omens came to pass, death came to the gods lands, and he would end up losing his life. But his legacy lived on, and was given the task to find the boy, now a man, who's ties reached far into the spirit realm...
He was tasked to restore balance to the lands, in wake of the Dragon Gods death..."
He would say, and take another drag, just letting his words sift into them and leaving the story hanging, knowing full well they would have questions about it.

Taikichi's theme music continued...
Thinking on the tale told by the old man a sudden realization passed through the mind of Byoki. This man is a sage, or like a sage, and not the sages that are though to exist. Old men layered in dusty robes sifting through old books. The kind the legends speak of, men who have walked amongst the clouds. Men whom have spoken with gods, heard their whispers speaking softly into their minds and their hearts.
Byoki thought for a long moment as the story covered the whole of his being engulfing him in a sea of questions. There was only one that made sense for the time being though, only one thing he could think to say after hearing and feeling the tale.
Would you take me with you Taikichi? Whatever it is that's going on sounds of greater importance then my own desires. If my mere presence makes your task any easier i would have at least done something in my existence worth speaking of when i to reach my end.

Kou had forgotten about his food as the man spoke of dragons and myths. He wondered how this man seemed to know so much about such things, and how he seemed casual with the spirits. Snapping back to reality when he heard Byoki's question Kou felt his heart jump a bit. It did sound like it would be an awesome adventure to go about the world with the spirits.
"Sounds like an adventure... I am down"
Pulling his attention back to his food Kou began to tear at his food like he had not eaten in days. Suddenly he stopped as quickly as he began when he realized something about the man. What if he was the boy save by the dragon god, and he was about to go off on this epic adventure. A smile ripped across his face as Kou spoke before swallowing his food, after his first attempt at speaking he swallowed his food.
"Wait. Are you the boy that was saved by the dragon god?! Who is now a man... and so on... yeah, that's you right? With the spirit powers... I mean you got dragons and eagles you hang out with..."
