War breeds fear; fuels hatred; feeds war.
Since the beginning of time man has fought side by side, together for one common goal, a purpose, be it religion, to protect their way of life, to project their way of living, for fear or worry; however, some men just want to watch the world burn. This story focuses on the young Uzumaki Genji, an innocent boy who's hand would be forced to become a man prematurely. Born an Uzushiogakure native, his people, the Uzumaki, were highly renowned and feared worldwide because of their knowledgeable prowess in fūinjutsu. It was here, during the First Great Shinobi War, where the young Genji would witness war firsthand. As the countries began militarizing, many sought to expand their already flourishing territory while others merely fought to keep what little land they had gained. It was here that rivals and enemies would forge alliances, they would become brothers in arms. Witnessing the strain on the people, Genji had witnessed the worst at such a young age. Deciding that their son was more important then anything, his parents searched for an escape, a way for their boy to live a life without bearing such an experience as this.
And so, after joining a wandering caravan, the three set out for Tetsu no Kuni in hopes of joining the then neutral Samurai in an effort to protect their families future. Behind the borders of the "Three Wolves Mountains" they hoped to start a new life, one that would teach their son of happiness, honor and strength instead of bloodshed and cruelty. However, the next events would lead their son into the path of the unknown, a path bred from the embers of war.
Seeking rations, an unknown band of shinobi attacked the caravan traveling to the Land of Iron, slaughtering those who stood between them and their hunger. Unfortunately, outnumbered and overwhelmed, protecting their son had lead Genji's parents to their inevitable death, right before his very eyes. Stained with the blood of his parents, a flood of emotions ran through him, a spark causing his switch to flip. In an outburst of rage, Genji took one of the countless kunai that had been plunged into his mother, racing after the shinobi responsible for vengeance. Easily dispatching the child, moments from being cut in two, a howling fog crept through the area...
Blacking out, only seconds had passed before reawakening to the sight of the shinobi squadron cut into ribbons, their blood staining the blades of three samurai, whom were fully clad in extravagant armor. Amazed and intrigued, as the three swiftly ventured off, Genji followed, only to be caught almost immediately.
Deciding it was against their code simply cut the boy down or allow him to starve, like Genji's parents had wished, their son was taken to the protective land of Tetsu no Kuni, under the protection and watchful eye of the samurai who inhabited the land. Not long after, it was here where Genji would find his calling, his purpose, his way of returning the pain he'd suffered to the world. Under the disguise of using loyalty, honor, obedience, duty, filial piety, and self-sacrifice, Genji accepted such traits only so he could selfishly carry out his own ambition, his own justice. It was here where he would learn the way of the sword, incorporating their teachings and everyday life into his own. Unfortunately, his ambitions only burned brighter, his desire for battle becoming his sole purpose for existing. To live and die by the sword; that was his way of thinking.
However, against his wishes, the samurai did not participate with conflicts involving the shinobi unless they personally broke the boundaries of their borders. Outraged, Genji took what followers he could, deciding that he alone would carve his sword into history, his name to be feared and remembered throughout the sands of time.
For a time, Genji and his band of warhawks of rōnin ventured throughout the land as mercenaries for higher, known for taking the greatest risks yet somehow succeeding in each mission given to him.
However, as their reputation grew, so did others efforts to stop them, normally to make a name for themselves. Unafraid of challengers, Genji welcomed them to their death, continually disregarding his own fate and the lives of his men, accepting tasks that required he and his few hundred rōnin to combat platoons and battalions of shinobi forces upwards in the thousands. Quickly, his name began to spread like the wind, his reputation as a ferocious, cunning, and fearless man earning the attention of many. As his reputation grew, many had begun to fear his name and what he stood for, which brought then enemies to unite against him, setting a trap to end his life.
Returning to the Jin Province for provisions and rations, while attempting to cross the Chang Ban Bridge, Genji's warhawks were met from each side of the 3.2 kilometer long bridge. Severely outnumbered and cornered, instead of admitting defeat, Genji readied his rōnin to battle. Deciding the fate of his enemies, betrayers and himself, the battle lasted fourteen long and grueling hours, blood staining every square foot of the bridge. Amidst the chaos, Genji fell, wounded by the two Generals of the joint army; however, like a man possessed, he continued to fight in a blind rage, earning him the title of Kyōkijin, the Unyielding Demon. Killing thousands, after dwindling the combined forces numbers, they were forced to retreat.
However, such was easier said then done. As the joint forces began their retreat, Genji ordered the immediate assault on any whom ran from the battlefield, slaughtering hundreds more who ran from the battlefield. These actions earned him his titles as ruthless and coldblooded, forever marking his name in history at the Battle at Chang Ban Bridge.
As the years continued, the First Great Shinobi war eventually died down, leaving Genji thirsting for a conflict that was not present. Taking what men he still had, he ventured back to the capital of Tetsu no Kuni hailed as a hero and warhawk to some. Deciding the current Taishō was no longer fit due to his age, after gaining the favor of many seasoned samurai, Genji challenged Nitobe Inazō to a Battōkai (sword meeting) to determine who would be the Taishō of Tetsu no Kuni. Stripped of their armor and clothing and armed only with their weapon of choice, the two did battle, ending with Genji taking Inazō's life.
Realizing the poor condition of the country's economy, as the Second Great Shinobi War began, Genji strongly stood by his actions to not enter at the present time, remaining neutral for the time being so they could gather their strength. This leadership quality and different approach gained the trust of many, though fell sour with phew. Going against his orders, his close friend Kagyaku, his then second in command, took her platoon of samurai, assaulting countless shinobi forces beyond their borders with high hopes of spreading conflict. Outraged, her own subordinates turned on her after she tried to end Genji's life with her own hand; her failure caused the woman to flee the country and remain crawling in the shadows.
Her actions would lead Tetsu no Kuni into a brief conflict, for battalions of shinobi marched to the doorstep of Tetsu no Kuni, threatening Genji's reign and the lives of those under him. Unyielding, Genji marched to meet them before they could venture into his borders, meeting them at the Blue Samurai Bridge. Renowned for his ferocity, he dared the battalion to cross, threatening them for if they had, they would never see the light of day again. Impressed and intrigued with the leader of the samurai, the two sides negotiated, leaving Tetsu no Kuni to return to its side of neutrality while dubbing Kagyaku, the one responsible for the mess created, an international criminal.
Sadly, before the war could end, the news of Uzushiogakure's destruction at the hands of Kirigakure reached Genji's ears, enraging the General. Though he had kept his past life a secret, the distant memories he had there as a child was one of the few things salvaging any innocence left in his tattered soul. With that now gone, and his incredibly strong military continuing to flourish, the world is at his mercy, for his taking...
The world would again experience... WAR!!
