MENTALITY:
Suisou is a calm person with a cold anger, a calculated disposition, and an intense desire to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Soft spoken, he is rarely known to shout - finding that speaking at a normal or lowered voice is far more effective at getting people to listen.
BIOGRAPHY:
An orphan born in one of the civilian towns of Hi no Kuni, Suisou had no name. He grew up on the streets, cared for by kindly housewives but otherwise ignored. When he was still young, a group of bandits raided the village in which he lived, and he - unsuccessfully - tried to defend it. Leaping from a nearby roof with a sturdy stick, he knocked one of the bandits to the ground but was almost casually thrown aside by a second, slamming into a door and slumping over into unconsciousness.
A wandering shinobi who had stopped in to rest on his way to Konohagakure had heard the commotion and arrived just in time to see the orphan boy get tossed aside, the only one of the village to try and stop the bandits from taking what they wanted by force - as the rest of the civilians had done nothing, merely acceded to their demands. Taking a liking to the boy, the shinobi made quick work of the bandits and took the boy from the village while he was unconscious.
Upon waking up, the boy was confronted with - rather than the afterlife he thought it’d be - an older man looking down at him, next to a boy similar to himself in age. After a scared few moments where the two tried to calm him down, it was explained to him that the two were shinobi of the village of Konohagakure, and that the older man had saved him from the bandits.
With determined eyes, the youth immediately sat upright and asked that they take him to Konoha. When asked why, the boy said that if he could only become a ninja, he would never again be unable to defend that which he cared for. A shared glance between the two preceeded a chuckle from the older man, who agreed but said that the boy would have to become his apprentice before he could take him to Konoha. Without hesitation the boy agreed, and the other shinobi laughed - saying that he had no idea of what he was getting himself into.
Shortly thereafter, the master - whom the boy had come to know as Sotto Zokusei - decided that the youth needed a name. Recalling his agility and courage in attacking from the roof, the master offered the name ‘Junbuu’, which the boy immediately rejected. It sounded like the name of a Buddha, he said. Laughing, the master offered an alternative - ‘Suisou’. It suited him, and he was thus named.
Suisou and his brother-in-training, whom he had come to know as Seisui, became fast friends. Brothers in every sense but blood, and trained together under Zokusei’s tutelage. They were taught of their master’s school of combat, and the traditions and rules behind it.
Years passed, and Suisou grew alongside Seisui into fine examples of shinobi. Upon their fifteenth birthday, however, things changed. Solemnly, their master informed them that for each master of his art, there could only be one true successor. He had never planned on having two apprentices, but fate had determined otherwise and while he was quite happy his two ‘sons’ had grown to be fine men, and masters of their art, they could not both be his successor.
According to the sacred tenants of their art, the two brothers met on the field of battle, and fought viciously to discern who would be the successor of their master. Seisui won, and - feeling victorious, declared that he was to be the next successor. Feeling ashamed, Suisou bowed his head and accepted the loss… but their master thought otherwise.
While Suisou had lost the match, combat prowess was not the only requirement for being a master of their art. Seisui was brash and wild, power hungry and vicious. While he was stronger than Suisou, now, he was not fit to bear the title of Successor. The battle had been a test, and not one so clear cut as it had seemed.
Furious at the denial of what was rightfully his Seisui attacked their master, but was easily fended off. A seal was placed on Seisui’s forehead, locking away the abilities he had been taught as per the rules of their art, and he was banished from Zokusei’s presence. Suisou and Zokusei continued from there, leaving Seisui to whatever fate had in store for him.
Suisou grew older, and inherited the title of Master from Zokusei, and in doing so adopted his surname of Sotto out of respect. The old shinobi, tired from years of fighting and training, retired peacefully to a remote location after bequeathing his name to Suisou, and leaving him with the knowledge that he had grown into a remarkable shinobi.
It was after this that Suisou met Kana, his wife. A remarkable woman, she was an inn owner and slightly older than he, but beautiful and wise. She has taught him many things in the years since their meeting, but most of all that she was no delicate flower to be protected. Together they live happily, supporting and loving one another, and rush happily towards a bright future together.[/size][/blockquote]
