[ Uzumaki Shinto ]Daito's father, a fierce shinobi who had a lot of experience with Fūinjutsu and Jikūkan Ninjutsu. He was one of the primary influences in Daito's life to explore the mysterious of Space-Time Techniques, as well as becoming very proficient in seals. His father taught him many private lessons, allowing Daito to pursue his passion for the ninja art alongside his fellow Academy students. Sadly, Shinto died during the Second Great Shinobi War, one of the countless shinobi who lost their lives in protection of Uzushio, the Hidden Whirlpool.
[ Uzumaki Namai ]Daito's mother, she was a kind and caring woman, fully supporting her son and his progress through the Ninja Academy - she was also blond. She felt a lot of pride for the boy she raised, knowing he would do right and help those in need; she was a little concerned about his joking nature, and the darker side he kept within. Sadly, Namai died during the Second Great Shinobi War, one of the countless casualties of the clan when Kiri attacked.
[ PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION ]
Daito is a tall, lean, blue-eyed, blond-haired individual. Unlike the majority of his clan, who have red hair, Daito is just one of the minority who doesn't share that common characteristic - in some ways it became like a personal joke between his friends. His usual appearance is somewhat scruffy, in the sense that he has stubble on his chin and tends to let his hair simply spike out as it will, but he's far from unhygienic. His clothing is the same as any other Konoha shinobi, consisting of a green flak jacket, black shirt, black pants, black shinobi boots, several pouches and a kunai holder on his right thigh - the only difference being he wears a long white trench-coat, which he prides himself on keeping clean.
The coat belonged to his father.
Typically, Daito is always smiling. He seems to be enjoying a constant joke, and will often be seen walking down the street grinning like a Cheshire cat. Another interesting point about Daito is his ever-present wooden cigarette, which is always in his mouth, held to one side. He claims it helps him with the cravings, since he quit the habit, but finds himself still wanting to smoke at times.
[ MENTALITY ]
On the surface, Daito is a young man who is very carefree, easy-going and can be someone who anyone can talk to. He enjoys having a laugh, sharing a joke, and trying to keep things in life relatively enjoyable. He also likes to flirt and considers himself something of a ladies man - even though he likely rubs most women the wrong way and likely annoys them more than anything.
His attitude of casualness is really a defense for the emotional pain he suffered at the loss of his family and village.
Yet, when the situation calls for it, Daito can become deadly serious and focused, almost with the flick of a switch. His entire attitude changes, his face becomes a scowl, his emotions are walled off, and he tends to take a mild enjoyment in his shinobi duties - especially when he's attacking Kiri ninja, taking a deep-seeded sadistic pleasure in paying them back for taking his parents before their time.
Daito is also a recovering smoker. He has quit several times, but this latest time is the last. In order to help with the cravings, Daito chews on a small piece of wood, which is shaped and painted to represent a cigarette - this gives him something to subconsciously stimulate his nicotine with, without resorting to picking up the bad habit again. Sometimes he feels he took up smoking to deal with the stress of losing his loved ones and the transition to Konoha following the destruction of his village.
[ BIOGRAPHY ]
Daito was born into the Uzumaki clan, the son of a well-known Hidden Whirlpool shinobi of great skill with Fūinjutsu and Jikūkan Ninjutsu, and a caring, supportive mother. The parents were overjoyed at the birth of their baby boy, having been unable to conceive children in the many years they had been trying - it was believed that there were too many complications, with Namai almost losing her life during her one and only pregnancy.
Like most in the Uzumaki, Daito's training in Fūinjutsu began at a very young age, around three years old when he first started reading, under strict guidance by his father; he also started tutelage in fundamentals of Jikūkan Ninjutsu around this time. His father, Shinto, was unwilling to let his son be without knowledge and prior training before entering the Ninja Academy. His reputation was well-known, and he wanted to ensure his family would have a legacy, especially given the difficulty of having just a single child. By the time Daito could read, he was being taught about chakra, chakra natures, basic seal formation, and the fundamentals that would eventually lead toward a mastery in Jikūkan Ninjutsu.
When Daito was enrolled into the Academy, he immediately was singled out for his differing hair color. Sure there were others who had brown, blond or black hair, but they weren't that many, and Daito learned how to cope with bullying by putting on a grin and laughing it off. It wasn't long before he found friends though, the world of children being fickle and teasing soon passing as lessons began to get serious and the effort required more focused.
It was around this time that Daito found Rasen, a fellow student who was the son of the clan leader. Both were avid students of Fūinjutsu and Jikūkan Ninjutsu, with both parents having taught them knowledge of the arts from a young age. With such a common interest the pair became friends, and soon others joined, swarming to Rasen's seemingly natural leadership qualities - while Daito was the clown of the group, joking and having laughs when not studying hard beside his friend. The bond the group formed was strong, and they would remain friends through thick and thin...
By the age of twelve, the class of Rasen and Daito passed the Academy, becoming Genin. At this time, the first shinobi war was also coming to a close, in the final years of the decade-long conflict. It was also a wake-up call for the young shinobi, Daito witnessing the results of the larger villages moving through the smaller ones without much regard for the little people; it was enough to make him sick, feeling like he wasn't worth the dirt other villages walked on. It also fueled his need to become one of the best in his chosen fields, so he wouldn't be unrecognized or under appreciated ever again - it was a young boy's vow, one that helped him concentrate and improve, serving him well until his later years.
The Genin team were regulated to helping the village recover; they rebuilt, ran errands, helped settle everything back into its rightful place. At the same time, when not on missions, Daito would always accompany Rasen to the library, working with his friend on studying and developing skills and ninja arts. The pair shared ideas, concepts, notes and then went off to see how they would work out - both fathers also helped, with Daito's parent providing a careful eye over his son's efforts, assisting him where needed and providing information where he lacked it. Because of the young shinobi's dedication to the pursuit of Seals and Space-Time Techniques, he was promoted to Chūnin, alongside his fellow Genins.
Daito was especially pleased to see Rasen get the promotion as well, both having worked equally as hard on their studies and training.
Over the course of twenty years, the group remained close. They each moved into specific areas, flourishing in their fields and becoming the path for the next generations to follow. Like Rasen, Daito committed himself to perfecting seals and space-time techniques, assisting the other in writing scrolls and taking down information that would help future development for Uzushio. It didn't matter that one was the son of the clan leader, because both respected the other, and their friendship had formed an unshakable bond - one that the entire group from the Academy years ago still shared.
Daito produced his own works, alongside Rasen's, adding to the reputation of the Uzumaki for having a seemingly natural affinity for seals and space-time Jutsu; and while not celebrated as the heir of the clan was, Daito earned his own solid reputation on his own strengths and ability. He made his father proud, adding to the family renown and pride, and he was involved in harder missions and several key developments in the ninja arts of the clan.
It seemed the group of friends were destined to grow together, and Daito was promoted to Tokubetsu Jōnin (specializing in scouting and information gathering, because of his Jutsu and seals), along with Rasen and several others of the original group. The promotion was a good stepping stone, as Daito had every intention of reaching the echelons of the high-ranking shinobi, a Jōnin. He increased his training, long having passed the need to study on the subjects, and began forging his own techniques and Jutsu while still in his early adulthood.
Yet, it seemed that not everything would continue in such a peaceful state, as the tide of war returned to the nation. While Daito remained mostly uninformed as to the exact catalyst of the Second Great Shinobi War, all he knew for certain was the effects it had on his home and his family...
Uzushio found themselves under attack from Kiri, both villages making a battlefield of the Hidden Whirlpool. Despite the strength in their small force, the Uzumaki couldn't handle such odds, and the Kiri military force ended up defeating the Uzushio shinobi. Despite his own efforts, Daito was horrified to realize that assistance from allies was unavailable, but he knew that war was raging across the land, and even Konoha had to protect their own - it was a sad, but honest truth. And unlike some, Daito didn't blame Konoha for the fall of his village, instead developing a deep hatred for the Kiri and their shinobi.
Uzushio was destroyed.
In the aftermath, Daito was shocked to discover his parents had died in the conflict, coming across their bodies, as well as most of his friends being lost or dead. It was a horrible time for the young man, and he was justifiably silent and introverted as he was dragged toward Konoha, simply being led by other survivors from the decimated village. The young man lost touch with everyone he knew, and found himself in the Hidden Leaf, holding only his father's coat - the only real memento that his village had even really existed.
But, being a proud man, and having loved his country and his people, Daito knew he couldn't sit back and let Konoha suffer the same fate. He enlisted into the shinobi forces, wanting to protect his new found home, especially as the war entered its final stages. The young man was placed onto a squad, tasked with attacking intruders who entered into Hi no Kuni; and in the forests surrounding the village, completing his task with deadly focus, Daito continued to build his reputation. He killed many enemies, using his Fūinjutsu and Jikūkan Ninjutsu to deadly effect - he soon garnered a reputation, one that he accepted willingly, making it a statement to his village and their memory.
Shirotae Rakurai, the White Bolt.
In the months following the end of the war, Daito had found a home, settled down, had become more like his old self and had been appointed the rank of Jōnin. While the rank felt lessened, Daito not being able to share the enjoyment with his friends, he was appreciative and dedicated himself to the betterment of his new village - and he vowed, like he had when he was a child but with a more mature understanding of what that entailed, that he would protect Konoha no matter the cost...
