[ MENTAL ANALYSIS ]
Hikari is a cheerful young lady with a reservoir of boundless determination and foolhardy courage. Despite being a shinobi there's nary a deceptive bone in her body as she possesses a great deal of sincerity and a sense of honor that often baffle those who come in contact with her. A ninja cursed with a big bleeding heart she cannot simply ignore those whom she feels are in need, even if it requires a sacrifice on her part. She will gladly do whatever she can to bring out a smile and help make the world a little bit sunnier. The chuunin doesn't have a sense of self-preservation. In her mind everyone else comes first and her own well-being is a mere afterthought at the end of the day. Because of this she's often taken advantage of, used, or easily fooled by more unscrupulous individuals. Hikari also has a bad habit of assuming everyone else is as well-intentioned as she is and truly, in her heart of hearts, doesn't believe someone would purposefully do her wrong until its too late. This makes her quite naive as well as overly-trusting. Despite this she forgives often and easily.
It simply is not in her nature to be conniving, vengeful, or mistrustful. She loathes suffering and detests causing pain to others, a mentality that makes it difficult for her to fight properly. However she's far from a pushover. The girl has strong ideals and a sharp tongue perfectly capable of expressing them. Verbally trouncing others in a debate or with an old-fashioned lecture is one of her favorite pastimes. A friend of Hikari's is a blessed individual indeed as they will be treasured and kept very close to her kind soul so long as she's treated right. Like the animal she's more or less become the Uzumaki remains loyal to her companions until the final hour.

[ HISTORIC INFO ]
Hikari had always considered herself plain and unremarkable, something that was reinforced over years of being surrounded by excellence. When she was born instead of a brilliant mane of fire atop her moistened dome there was a mess of black that only had a tint of violet in the right lighting. Having been denied the infamous mop of red that adorned her father's head was already the first omen of a child cursed with mediocrity. It was as if the gods themselves looked down upon Uzumaki Tenjiro, a man who was the definition of elitist that had been praying for son with a talent similar to his own, and said "not this time." He was distraught to say the least, but his "friend" of nearly ten years and the other half responsible for bringing Hikari into being, Unabara Himiko, couldn't care less. She was overjoyed simply to have a healthy baby. The couple themselves were on-again-off-again/will-they-or-won't-they down to a t. Both of them young. Both driven mad by hormones and a strong physical attraction to eachother. Both stubborn, opinionated, and uncompromising people. Their relationship being one of frienemies with benefits when libido rose, eventually years of fooling around caught up to them. Thus, there Hikari was. A few minutes old and the unwitting tie that kept these two people together.
Growing up she lived in between two homes. Her father in the Uzumaki clan compound and her mother's modest cottage on the other side of the village, as Himiko was too stubborn to forsake her grandmother's home to join the rest of society in apartments. Despite this she never noticed this as unusual. She was equally happy to spend time with her father when his schedule would allow then go scampering back to her mother once he set off on another mission or training misadventure. When she was with Tenjiro he tried to fill her head with knowledge. Extensive knowledge of ninjutsu, chakra, concepts, and fuinjutsu that a self-proclaimed "genius" like himself was easily able to understand by the time he was academy age. Unfortunately that was not that case for Hikari. She studied to please him and she deciphered what she could. But the girl was a slow-learner and the concepts he tried to force down her throat could only be regurgitated once rather than memorized for a lifetime, much less put into any application.
She was a little girl who wanted to play, run, skip, and laugh; not study inside all day. He didn't understand this. Her father would become unhappy with her to the point where he stopped spending time with her altogether, his own frustration with her corrupting their relationship. This broke her heart. Even though she detested it Hikari took it upon herself to try and learn the things he wanted. She made note cards, spent her time in his house reading over the "lesson plans" he'd made for her, did everything she could to try and asked to be enrolled in the academy straight away at age eight. In school she spent her focus on the aspects of ninjutsu and looked over her cards in class instead of paying attention to the lesson at hand. This caused her other grades to drop to the very rock bottom. She was one of the lowest students in the academy, burning herself out to where it was hard to learn anything period; let alone fuinjutsu concepts.
The other children made fun of her constantly. Her depression and anger with herself worsened during this time. Hikari's mother saw what this was doing to her daughter. She didn't hesitate to give Tenjiro a piece of her mind that had been festering for years. Himiko marched herself over to the Uzumaki distract in the way only a fed-up woman could. In an explosive argument, the likes of which carried through every home within half-mile radius, she'd managed to break through to him. To this day Hikari still has no idea what was said, but after that they all moved in together and shared one roof for the first time in her life.
Tenjiro reconciled with his daughter. A month later her mother was finally able to call herself Uzumaki Himiko. Things were far from perfect. Though they were better. Tenjiro became more patient with the young academy student. Together he'd help her study, tutor her personally in his spare time, and saw something in her he'd been ignorant to before: unyielding determination. As long as she was a willing to learn, he'd decided, he wouldn't give up on her.
And she was. So he didn't.
Hikari was able to turn her grades around enough to graduate with her class, her final score being a bit above average. She'd also gained confidence and her former classmates took notice. No longer could they push her around and expect to walk away unscathed. The girl had found her voice and she wasn't afraid to use it. Eventually the bullying subsided at the loss of many egos. This new-found normalcy wouldn't last long. The second great shinobi war struck. She was assigned to a squad with two other boys and they were tasked with any odd jobs higher ups felt the need to toss at them. Her teammates were cowards. Even though they were the same pair that had made her life hell growing up as the worst of her tormentors, Hikari discovered all of it was bluster.
She'd stepped up and acted as an unofficial second-in-command. Her leadership and uncommon bravery didn't go unnoticed. It was in the heat of the war she was promoted to Chuunin, acting as support by doing whatever she could to help. As fate would have it she wouldn't get to enjoy her shiny new rank for very long. Their village was under siege by enemy shinobi. In the midst of the chaos of what would be Uzushiogakure's last stand she'd found her parents. The situation was bleak and she could clearly see the panic of hopelessness wash over their features.
Her parents wanted her to go. To run. To hide. To flee. To do anything and everything she could to be as far away from that village as she could. Her father was already injured and her mother refused to abandon him. Before enemies had destroyed the shelter Hikari was told to henge herself and escape. A fuin was carefully inscribed onto her back, its purpose simple yet effective: to help her hide. She was told to henge into a form she wouldn't be recognized in. In a panic she transformed into the first thing she could think of. A little white dog. The seal took hold and made it so her disguise wouldn't be undone so easily. She was hesitant to go, but they promised they would come find her once everything was over.
Hikari left. She escaped as fast as her little legs could move. Somehow she'd slipped by the enemy forces as they regarded her as a lost niken or simply a stray. Time passed. The village now laid decimated. The whereabouts of her parents, or even knowledge if they survived, remained unknown. The fuinjutsu on her back keeps her locked in that form as she has neither the ability nor the knowledge to remove it. Now lost and distraught she wanders the ninja world the guise of a young hound, searching for answers and the family she left behind.
