"Oooooooow--!"
The wailing cries were heard throughout the floor, patients swinging their heads in the general direction. It was a cloudy mid-evening. Rays of warming light made their way through the aerial cotton covers from to time, creeping into open windows. It was an ordinary day, high-pitched whines apart of the routine as well. One of the elders, a woman, sat up straight in her bed. Her joints creaked with the slightest movement, cracking some other bones in her spine. Seemed like she rarely moved around, content with sleeping and laying still, conversing with her caretakers. "Why is that child always getting hurt?" Shaking her head in disapproval, as she questioned the nurse who had arrived hoping for some answers.
"Hehehe, it seems that way Madam Kinoki. Shes apart of the Hayakuni, we all know how much hard work they put in," she said, scribbling notes on her clipboard and giving the daily check up. Not paying attention to her attendant, the weary eyes looked over to the room furthest down the hall, curious about the female there. In the end of it all, it brought joy. Kinoki subconsciously brought a smile to her own face, knowing the next generation of shinobi were paving their individual paths to greatness.
"What is her name?" she inquired further, turning her head back to the nurse. She perked up her head, before being entirely focused on paperwork.
"Hn? Oh, I think she goes by Emi," Thinking about the answer, recollecting her memories.
"Emi..." Kinoki whispered to herself, repeating it to engrave to her own mind. She'd watch Emi, for in her gut, something was planned for that girl. It might of been the old wild thoughts of a fossil, but a feeling that could not be shaken.
"I'll make sure to remember her name, then. She must be mentally strong and durable to be here so often."

"Uahhh! It burns!" complained the blonde, pouting in her high chair. A soft touch to her bruise as a liquid paste was applied, a type of disinfectant made from natural mushrooms and herbs found growing in the mountains. It was a home made remedy, been worked and perfected for years with the passing generations. Long blonde locks sat on the mother's thin shoulders, battle scars adorned her skin. Rummaging through her satchel, a roll of white bandages was taken out. Placing it a little to the left of the cut, located on the right knee, she began to slowly wrap it around. "You should not be so, oh whats the word, soft Emi. Aches and pains only make you stronger child," the mother jested with her off-spring.
"Pfft. I'm not soft--" snap backed the Genin, although her voice fading in the end. They had a mutual understanding not only as mother and daughter, but as clansmen ; clanswoman even. She wasn't soft indeed, being able to take some of the hardest hits the world could dish out to her. Emi's world being the Hayakuni clan, it definitely was some hard hits.
Her mother stood up from her kneeling position, strolling through the room to the faucet. Turning the handle, the cold water brushed off the paste from her fingers. "Physically Emi, you are not soft. Your skin and bone can take beatings," Scrubbing off the remaining residue before grabbing a towel to dry, she continued to mention the flaws. "Focus on getting your mind right, the body only does what the mind tells it. So then you can be truly strong like a stone."
"Well, aunt Anuki was 'strong' like a stone, but even she cried when her cat died!" responded Emi with an irrelevant memory, as the cat was a favorite of her aunt Anuki. She had him since a child, so when he finally passed, it left a void for her to fill. Stopping from herself to laugh, Emi's mother just shook her head with a smile. Getting closer, an endearing hug ensued, wrapping her forearms across her daughters back. A slight pull brought them closer as ever, happiness feeling their own little world.
"Remember Emi, even stones can be chipped and cracked. Timing is everything, so the wrong timing can end everything," advised her mother, playing with her hair and giving an affectionate tap on the nose.
"But I am a gem, I become beautiful under pressure!" Emi bragged, flexing her face muscles so hard, her smiling was the biggest cheese seen in the valley. Chuckling at her remark, she gave a slight love tap to the face, Emi flinching at the touch. "Well, you are special like one. But let us wait for you to stop bitching before making bolder claims, hm?" It was more of a suggestion, rather enforced too, as Emi's mother walked through the doorway back out to the hall. "Hurry, let's get back for the third session of training!"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll show you..." sulked the blonde, who hopped her chair and jolted to catch up to her mother's lead, her own excitement brewing within.
