"Can you believe it? Another girl has gone missing," a red haired man said as he tossed a tabloid down on the table. The article discussed the disappearances of three women in the past two weeks. Seemingly vanishing without a trace as if they were spirited away or something. "It's hard enough getting lucky without them disappearing," he grumbled and took a sip of his alcohol.
"What I can't believe is that you read that crap," his dark haired companion said as he glanced at the tabloid. The Fire Starter was a well known gossip magazine in Hi no Kuni, known to have more conspiracy in its words than actual facts. "Y'know how many people come in and out of this city each day?" he asked as he finished off his own drink.
"Well, no...," the red haired man started out.
"Exactly!" his friend said as he slammed his glace on the table in faux anger. "Neither do they. So stop trying to find excuses for your inability to get laid."
"Whatever," red hair growled as he downed his drink and tossed his money on the table. Rising to his feet he started to make his way out of the pub. Tonight was turning out to be another bust. It was already late too. The streets were pretty much clear save the few stragglers like himself. That's when he stopped. It was faint, but he was sure he heard it.
"Hey, wait up!" his friend called out as he exited the bar, but it was too late. He had already started to race off in the direction of the sound, a woman's scream. The duo ran for a couple of blocks until the red haired man finally came to a halt. Standing before them was a tall man with braided black hair holding a woman by the neck.

It had been about a month since his grand betrayal, and believe that is no overstatement. Though, that is a story for another time. Since then, he has truly enjoyed his reclaimed freedom. No longer was he confined in the body of some wretched human. Or worse, a pot! He didn't have to lay shackled in his cage until his parasite of a host needed chakra. He was no longer Sunagakure's trump card.
For the first time in a long time, Shukaku was free.
But his freedom came with a cost. As part of his escape Shu utilized a new jutsu that he created, the Tanukitsuki. It was a sort of catharsis for him. Subjecting humans to the same kind of imprisonment he endured. It also enabled him to escape from Sunagakure's senors as well as granting him an impeccable disguise.
Unfortunately, the technique needed refinement. Residual traits of his victim's personality tended to manifest from time to time. For the first time he felt the desire to eat. He found joy in drinking alcohol, though it had no effect on him whatsoever. Worst of all was his new found interest in the human female form. Which ultimately boiled down to Shu preferring to kill women, the prettier the better.
Which brings us back to tonight...
"He killed her...," the red haired man said, horrified by the senseless brutality he had just witnessed. Fear swept over him as he looked at her lifeless form sprawled out on the cold pavement. "How could you do something like that?!"
"Easy," Shu answered casually. "You just kinda twist your wrist," he explained as he offered a demonstration, emulating the action in the air so that the man could get a good understanding. He then turned his attention back to the woman. This situation had become rather troublesome. He had been good too! Only killing once a week as to raise suspicion. Targeting the tourist. Only hunting during the most quiet hours of night. All so that he could get found out by two drunk...who were these guys?
A kunai sailed past his head, glancing his cheek before getting embedded into the nearby wall. The red haired man appeared in front of him and slammed a fist into his stomach before following up with a punch to the face, the force of the impact resounded in the night air.
"Sha ha ha haaa~," Shu chuckled as he wiped some blood from his face. A sinister grin on his face as his attacker dropped to his knees, letting out a howl as the pain of his now broken hands set in. His attention then turned to the dark haired friend, who appeared to have been preparing the seals for a jutsu before realizing their plan was already backfiring. It was a sweet moment. Witnessing the moment when a human came to understand they had bitten off more than they could chew. It's why he hung around this city. Everyone was so cocky. Teaching them what it meant to experience dread was exhilarating.
"Dammit," the dark haired shinobi swore as he regained his nerve. Completing the handseals he clapped his hands together and took a deep breath. Fire or wind. Whichever the technique he was about to preform would be unknown. Shu raised a hand in his direction and a sphere of sand materialized around his head. The jutsu went off and was followed by the muffled wails of the man before he collapsed on the ground, presumably dead.
"And then there was one," Shu mused as he looked at the red haired man, who was still racked with the pain of his shattered hands. His grin widening as he observed the damage. Fingers were bent out of shape, bones protruded through the skins, blood dripped profusely to the ground. "I think I'll keep you alive," he said as an idea quickly sprung to mind. "You can entertain me until the full moon comes in a couple of days."
"Monster...," red hair groaned as she attempted to rise to his feet, but was kicked to the ground by Shu.
"Who told you?" the beast asked with a smirk as sand began to pour out of his sleeves. Covering the woman, the downed shinobi, and red hair in sand. The sand quickly began to spiral in an isolated storm before dissipating, leaving nothing but an empty space.
