The Bloody Mist
After Godaime Mizukage Terumi Mei passed away, at sixty three, siring two daughters and them having three grandchildren between them, one to Terumi Sumi and the other two to Terumi Saiyei. The Rokudaime Mizukage Ichidan Bakase came into office. Bakase was a friend of the Elder Council and his move into office brought a rather dark time to Kirigakure, as he and the elder council re-instated the villages tradition of barbaric exams, which made them the Bloody Mist once more. Among the countless things that were done in his time in office, the only other ones that stand out are the military modifications done to the main village and the banning of outsider shinobi from the village unless permission given by himself and the council. He was forty two when he came into office, and died at sixty seven, mysteriously in his sleep. A formal investigation linked a deadly poison to Hi no Kuni, as this was the case a new Mizukage had to be chosen. Shichidaime Mizukage Terumi Rinruri, having been trained by her grandmother before her passing and studying under one of the villages former Seven Swordsmen, she came into office at twenty five. When she came into office, the council tried to "help" her as they put it, pushing and trying to control the office of the Mizukage as nothing more then a puppet. It was within the first seven months of her coming into office did the faction war begin, having been going strong for the past twelve years.
Her first year in office, and a new jinchuuriki was made for one of their bijuu, after a failed experiment on someone close to her. It is known to the village her younger brother suffered a terrible accident that leaves him helpless, but anyone who speaks of it is soon after silenced. With her inherited responsibility of the barbaric ritual, she has chosen to keep it in place. Though, a good amount of the Genin survive the exam, there have been mistakes. From this point, Kirigakure takes a step towards its blood reputation, as the civil war begins to claim its first few casualties. Most of the dead having been on the councils side, the village loyalist and the councils opposing force have gone to a more underground war. Using guerrilla tactics to disrupt each other, both sides seem locked in a grudge match
As far as relations with other villages, the report on the poison seems to have disappeared in the midst of the reinstatement of Rinruri, which some suspect means she is linked to it some way. Her views and looks on the village is one that she pushes, to make the strongest and most prestigious shinobi, ones whose names are feared and respected by all who hear them. But with the current underground war, it is hard to keep relations up with other villages. Outside villages haven't had contact with Kirigakure in over five years, save the few civilians whom pass by form the land of waves and the people whom employ the village, of which the Land of Waves Fuedal Lord ______ and his gang are high up on the list of village employers.
