It wasn't often that he invited others to visit the run-down compound of the Uchiha, let alone his own home within it, but if there was any occasion on which such action might be appropriate, it was this one. A serious bomb had been dropped on the shinobi world on the occasion of Lord Naruto's funeral, and thus far, there had not been much of a response to it. Suzaku could only guess what steps, if any, the other villages were taking to address the threat of these so called "bijutsukai," but he had witnessed the response of his own Kage and been left wanting.
That was why he had sent out his summons, delivered to the doorsteps of a pair of Konoha's more notable soldiers by a pair of small brown snakes. His summons carried no authority, of course, and frankly, he'd be a bit surprised if the ninja to whom he was appealing knew him as anything more than "that old Uchiha." He'd received few opportunities to distinguish himself as anything more than that, and now, with a family to think of and a real threat on the horizon, he wasn't going to continue waiting for that chance to find him.
It seemed fortune would smile on him this day: the two he'd called for had actually come. He'd left the door ajar so they could enter at their leisure and waited at a large round table to greet them, but not before preparing a cup of hot tea for each of them. After all, if he was going to have guests, he might as well be hospitable.
Setting down his own tea, he put on a polite smile and spoke. "Thank you both for coming," he said. "I know you both must be very busy in light of recent events. In fact, those very matters are the reason why I have requested your presence here. But before that..."
His dark eyes turned upon Sarutobi Osamaru, and for a moment, his gaze grew mildly softer. "I must offer you my sincerest condolences. I realize that the Nine-Tails jinchuriki is kin to you. I hope that neither you nor your clan have been impacted too negatively by her present predicament."
All of his eyes were on Osamaru as he waited for a response. His sympathy was genuine, but at the same time, his expression of such was partly intended as something of a litmus test. He wanted to see how the two of them reacted to the words he spoke. He wanted to see if they knew as much as all of their fellow villagers were meant to know, for that understanding could color the rest of their meeting.

Albeit a bit forward, she didn't actually know the person whom has issued the summons. While being a member of the Konohagakure Ninja corp she understood how it could be someone would find out about her or her capabilities. It was still odd, in such way the summons was issued. Or maybe I just dont like snales She thought to herself as she made her way into the chamber. When she noted it was an old man of sorts, she looked him over for the briefest of moments. Should she know this man? More then likely not, considering most of the Konoha shinobi were unknown to each other, considering their life style it was well within reach to make that assumption.
When the man spoke, she counted his words, seeing the hidden jab, a test to gauge how they would react. Being who she was, Mara did not so much as blink at his words, her soft eyes hidden behind those glasses as she looked to him with a soft spoken face, but no smile or frown. It seemed the issuance was to speak on something, between herself, Osamaru and Suzaku. The three of them were of the higher echelon of shinobi in Konohagakure no sato, but that still left much open as to what was wanted from those represented here. When he spoke of the nine tails, she remembered that day when the Hokage had seemingly taken that power from being, by sealing it in his tar. An extreme measure, but one she could understand, as a course that would lead the village neither to war nor conflict. But still something about it ate away at her, something didn't seem right, what with the most recent stir of an intruder in the village. Things were getting grayer as time wore on. It was no wonder, few could look to see the light.
"Your messengers do their job well..."
She would ask, holding up the message as it had been delivered. She still didn't feel right with the whole scenario, the snakes held a bad omen in her mind and in the villages history. It was no wonder one could tell she did seem ready in case things went ill, that was a given in this darkened hovel where whispers from snake charmers were made.
"Though the location leaves something to be desired"
She would say, stepping more into the light a bit, and wondering just what this old man had called them for.

It wasn't uncommon for Osa to receive invitations such as this, to random meetings with his peers. In fact it happened more frequently than he liked. Usually, people just wanted to know the current status of Kumogakure or wished to discuss the best methods of performing mission in Kaminari no Kuni. There was even one guy that wanted to hook him up with one of the dark-skinned femme fatales. But this invitation came from the most unexpected of sources.
An Uchiha.
Even though sixty years had passed since the war and Uchiha Sasuke had been pardoned, there was still a lot of bad blood involved with that clan. Trouble always seemed to follow them. He was sure that this would be no exception. Taking a sip of the tea that had been prepared for him Osa glanced over at Suzaku, never looking at his eyes.
"One of our youngest was put on display and fossilized in front of the entirety of the village. Of course it's impacting us negatively," his tone was bitter and his annoyance over the situation clear as day. "All because of a clown."

As rude as Mara's comment was, Suzaku took it in stride; he had not called them expecting any more kindness from them than he was used to receiving from most. That they had come at all was kind enough. "I do apologize for the sorry state of my residence," he said. "Since my father passed, it has been left to me to maintain and reconstruct this compound. Even my wife prefers not to linger here." He let out a stifled chuckle at the notion. Really, it wasn't certain that restoring the small compound was even worthwhile, but a certain sense of filial duty bound Suzaku to the task. It was no surprise that neither his brother nor his son experienced the same.
The latter, at least, would learn.
He did not intend to try to read them, but he could not help but to recognize that his guests did not seem entirely comfortable in his presence. It was understandable, he reckoned, if mildly irritating. The important thing was that their reactions to his words told him what he needed to know. "As I feared," he thought, his gaze growing slightly more grim as Osamaru finished his reply. The shift was as much a reaction to the pain of the Sarutobi as it was to the confirmation he'd derived from those words. That was what he would have them believe, at least.
"I will not waste your time," spoke the Uchiha, addressing both of his guests. "Unfortunate though it may have been, Lord Hokage's actions can at least be called decisive; however, the message he sent was misdirected. The people of the Leaf have heard his decree, but these so-called bijutsukai"--he almost spat the term--"have not been addressed. This, I believe, is folly. As much as I respect the idea that such threats against our village cannot be dignified with a response, I also realize the manner of threat this enemy might pose if they bear even a fraction of the might that jester claimed."
He drew in a deep breath. "I ask that the two of you join me in an effort to track down this criminal, acquire further information on his plans and abilities, and if possible, eliminate him and his ilk.

Intriguing...
Her thought on the subject, at the moment, as Mara took in his proposal. It seemed a good idea, but an idea at that, to do such a thing would be to admit they had no trust in the Hokage or his plans. To admit they had no trust in the Hokage, would mean they have no trust in the village. A slippery slope it was, one that could easily lead to their actions being misread or interpreted as treason depending on the light they were shown in. So her next words would have to be chosen carefully.
"It would stand to reason, if Lord Hokage wished for such things to be, they would be...
What your proposing could end up labeling us as traitors, and put the village at risk due to our actions... Not something we should easily jump on board with...
However..."
She paused, as she turned, her eyes reflecting in the light. She too was cautious of the Uchiha, their clan was not known for being the nicest people. Their clans Curse of Hatred being a stigma that even the young generation could read about.
"While it may be prudent to wish these actions and perform these tasks, it can be done within the premise of Lord Hokage's understanding...
To say it simply, we can request to do this, from Lord Hokage....and have it labeled a Black Op...
This would give us backing from the village, and the trust of Lord Hokage inorder to ensure that we put the village and its standings before our own needs for...vengeance...or moral sense of right and wrong.
If this were so, we would also not just be three Jounin... We would have support, which would ensure a successful mission"
She said, her words not so heavy, but full of wisdom. While she understand the loss to the village and the need for action, she was much wiser then most her years, and understood that even in such cases were decisive action could easily thwart what might be a dangerous threat, there still was need of thought behind such things. It was one thing to go behind the village or the Hokage's knowledge and possibly start a war due to the actions taken to thwart such a group. It was quite another to get the Hokage's and the villages backing to do the exact same thing, and retain the honor of ones family and honor of ones village.
This is what made Konohagakure no sato Shinobi the best. Their will, they would put the village first over their own wants and desires, such loyalty and honor, it was no wonder other nations feared them for their devotion.

Well this had certainly taken an unexpected turn. Truthfully, Osa had no idea why he had really been summoned. It was even more questionable when the case of Sio was brought up. At most, Osa assumed that they were all gathered to share their gripes about the new Hokage, which he would have been okay with, the man was not his favorite leader at the moment. Instead, Suzaku wanted to start up a group of headhunters to track down the Bijūtsukai.
No lie, it was a plan he could get behind.
With them out of the picture then Sio's life could go back to normal. It was what she deserved. Unfortunately, the real world didn't work that way. The woman sitting across from him would make sure to mention that.
"I doubt the search would cause such a serious commotion as to label anyone a traitor," Osa interjected when Mara had finished speaking. She was two years his junior so he never really got the opportunity to get to know her, but he knew a little bit of her exploits. "But you both make valid points," he said as he took another sip of the tea. "The clown and his group need to be addressed, and a task force would be the best way of handling it. That way the village wouldn't have to devote too many resources to the hunt." Placing the tea cup on the table he swirled the remaining contents in it slowly. "But as Kyûin-san said, the Hokage's permission will be required. Masahige-sama doesn't appear to be the type to appreciate vigilantism."
With that said, it was time to break the bad news.
"I will not be able to participate either way. My duties as ambassador keep me incredibly busy with paperwork or travel. Especially now. It will be my job to make sure that the alliance with Kumogakure stays stable during this troubled time," he explained.

Objections. He couldn't say that he hadn't expected them, but even so, the subtle shift in his countenance betrayed a hint of disappointment. He had his reasons for wanting to go behind the Hokage's back concerning this matter. Some of them were personal, and perhaps even petty, but others were much more reasonable. Briefly, the Uchiha closed his eyes as he contemplated his next words. He also took the opportunity to scan once more to ensure that the three of them were truly alone; this would only get trickier if Masahige found out about it so soon.
He opened his eyes. "Your concerns are not unfounded," he said to them both. Osamaru had been kind enough to address most of Mara's worries himself, so Suzaku chose to focus on the one that the two of them agreed upon: the necessity of bringing this suggestion to the Hokage. "It has occurred to me that it might be wise to have this discussion with Lord Hokage,"--he spoke the title with a certain note of venom this time, not too subtle to be noted by the others--"but the very notion that has you both so on edge in this moment has prevented me. I am not unaware of the way the people of this village perceive me. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be surprised if my suggestion sounded vaguely treasonous even if I spoke it directly to the Hokage's face."
It was hyperbole, and he knew it; however, it served his point. "If this suggestion is to receive serious consideration, one of you must bear it to the Hokage; however..." He paused for a long moment, even taking the time to sip from his tea. After all, cold tea was no good at all. "Before you choose that path, you should know that the Hokage does not place as much stock in loyalty and transparency as either of you." His eyes fell upon Osamaru, and he measured the man once more. If the temper famous in that man's bloodline was to show itself, now might be the time. Suzaku could not be unprepared for it.
"Sarutobi Sio has not been sealed. In fact, there is some chance that she is in the hands of the bijutsukai as we speak."

She listened to their words, some of them filled with wisdom others with suspicion. While Suzaku was the one wishing for these things to come to light, Osamaru had loyalties and unities to be fulfilled elsewhere. Which left Mara, the only in-between in this small conclave, and the only one with no true affiliation to either side. Her loyalty lay with the village.
This is when Suzaku dropped his bombshell.
A quick glance from her, betrayed her stoic look, her eyes showing a fury, not unlike that of the storm hidden deep within. If that's true, then Lord Hokage lied to us, but he would not do so unless necessary to the villages safety and the safety of others...troubling
"Hmmm...
How came you by this knowledge?
We all saw clear as day, when Lord Hokage sealed Sio away..."
Her eyes showed a coldness, an almost ice like quality, that would speak of her willingness to end lies. She had a responsibility to the village, and if Suzaku did not tread lightly, he would win any chance of professional or friendly relationships from those in this room.

The Uchiha was a straight shooter, that's for certain. In any other situation, Osa might not have minded. But he was far from being calm today. It was a strange mix of emotions that coursed through the Sarutobi. The nerve of this man to say that Sio was in the hands of the Bijūtsukai was enough to piss him off. However, he took it a step even further by implying that the Hokage was in fact a traitor.
This really did not help mend his image of the Uchiha at all.
"You've got some balls," Osa growled as the temperature surrounding him, and ultimately the room began to rise significantly. Dark red eye glared at the Uchiha as he glanced at the man. "You better explain yourself right now. I'm in no mood to deal with crackpot conspiracy theories."
You should have a good reason for know this information. The situation with Sio is not known to anyone but a select few. The most logical thing I could think of is that the character is simply jumping the gun. Even the Sharingan wouldn't provide this information really.

Have a little faith in me, huh =) ?
Almost instantly, the atmosphere grew decidedly more uncomfortable than it had already been. The rise in heat made it slightly harder to breathe, but as the heir of a clan with an affinity for fire to match that of the Sarutobi, Suzaku was quick to adjust. He cleared his throat and proceeded to address them both quickly, dispensing with his previous theatrics.
"It is true. We did all see the Hokage seal Sio," he agreed, addressing Mara first. "But, what you see with your eyes is entirely different from what I see with mine. I cannot say for sure what means the Hokage used to facilitate this most convincing deception, but the girl we saw was certainly not Sio. Lord Masahige spoke not one word of truth during the entirety of that affair. Before my Mind's Eye, there can be no lies."
He turned his gaze upon the hot-blooded Sarutobi. "Besides that, there is the matter of Lord Konohamaru," he continued. "To be quite honest, I am surprised that you did not perceive the disparity, Osamaru. You must know Lord Konohamaru better than I do. He, like the late Lord Naruto, would certainly die before sacrificing any loyal member of the Leaf. Do you really believe he would so willingly agree to the permanent imprisonment of his own beloved granddaughter because of one man's threat? Do you really believe he would have stood by and watched it happen without a word of protest? Without a single tear? Without so much as a break in his countenance?"
Konohamaru's suspicious behavior had been the factor that inspired him to take a closer look; he was not very close to the man, but he knew him well enough to realize when he was behaving strangely. Granted, his own bitterness toward the current Lord Hokage had played its part, but they didn't need to know that. It was clear that they doubted his motives enough already.

His explanation lacked some details, but she could understand his motives. But still she couldn't let the implied actions of one man come before the village, even if that one man felt he was in the right.
"Lord Hokage's actions would be for the betterment of the village then...
It is not your place as a ninja of Konohagakure no sato to dictate whether or not his actions were right or wrong...
We support Lord Hokage, trusting in his knowledge and understanding to protect this village at all costs.
To say he would lie to us without good reason and to go behind his back is"
She paused, as she moved from where she was standing, moving closer to the doorway. The tension was rising in the room, and much like the clouds, any manner of heat caused her to move. But this was not the slinking back of one afraid, no this was the positioning of a skilled opponent. As the air in the building grew tense the air outside would as well, the clouds overhead beginning to rumble and turn grey. A storm was building, and with Mara here in this building one could only guess as to why it was.
"A punishable offense.
Now... Suzaku-san, I understand what you are suggesting...
Understand where your heart leads you...
But to not trust Lord Hokage Masahige-sama, is something that I cannot go along with.
As Lord Hokage it is his job to act for the better of our village, even if the action is unpopular, or causes him to be despised...
We must support him in these endeavors, and unite as a whole.."
The sky outside grew darker though, and rumbling could be heard all throughout the village.
"So, Suzaku-san...
If you wish to hunt these Biju--katsuki or whatever these freaks call themselves, we must do it with Lord Hokage's backing...
If you feel he lied to us and we shouldn't trust him, nor ask his permission for this endeavor
then I will take my leave..."
Her words, chosen carefully, as the same glimmer of ice showed in her eyes. Whereas the rest of them were getting heated, she remained cool, but that level-headed-ness and her calm where just a mask. Her real emotion was mirrored in the sky above.

Osa would listen to what Suzaku had to say. He would take in every single word the Uchiha would use to justify these outrageous claims. However, when he had finished a small chuckle escaped from Osa as he crossed his arms and leaned back in his seat. There was little that he could say in regards to what he might have seen during the fossilization. Even if there were any merit to his claims there was little to no proof. There was nothing for him to stand on save his little bit about Konohamaru-dono, which he would address in due time. In the meantime he gave Mara his attention.
A storm was brewing, and his eyes narrowed on the woman.
"Kyûin-san, please," his tone was stern and essentially told her to stand down. Things were getting too tense, and Osa knew he played a part in that. The temperature gradually declined to something mildly more appropriate as he took this time to speak. "If you do speak the truth about the Hokage, which I will remind you is purely hearsay at this point, I am sure there is a good reason for it." Now was the "fun" part. Making the Uchiha eat his words for making assumptions about his clan. "And you base all of this because of my grand-uncle's behavior? Do not for a second pretend that you know how the Sarutobi feel about this. None of us are happy with this solution. Konohamaru-dono most of all, but our duty as shinobi comes before all." The temperature started heating up slightly. "If sacrificing one of our own means the continued safety of our village then we will proudly lay down our lives every time."

Post by SUZAKU on Sept 17, 2013 17:38:45 GMT -5
Suzaku could feel Mara's chakra begin to flare as the weather outside grew inhospitable. To say that he was not impressed would be a lie, and if he had the luxury of frivolity, he might even have a look outside just to see how much the sky stirred at her whims; however, he remained seated and calm, folding his hands in front of his face.
He had expected some resistance, but perhaps not this much. It was very possible that he would be made to regret that mistake if he could not sway them, but he knew the risks when he called them here. "As I said, I will not stop either of you from taking these matters before the Hokage," he explained. "You may even go so far as to request my arrest if you believe that I am speaking out of turn. I will not fight it; causing instability in this village is not my goal."
He loved Konoha in his own way. Perhaps it was difficult for them to understand, but now was not the time to explain. "I am older than either of you, and more experienced, but the fact is that you are still highly respected Jônin of the Leaf. As such, you bear the right and the responsibility to speak out against injustice and take action when you spot it, even if the culprit is the Hokage. The title does not make the man infallible, let alone trustworthy."
He could not have known how the Sarutobi felt. This was true, but he believed--or rather, hoped--that Osamaru, at least, could see the reason for his suspicions. "The threat to this village's safety," he echoed, "has come from the outside. And yet, the only response to that threat has been to those within. If you ask me, that must mean that Lord Hokage feels that we are far greater a threat to the village than the bijutsukai."
His expression hardened. "Putting our faith and our lives into the hands of those who fear us has cost my clan far too much. I would advise the two of you against making that mistake."

She listened, but held her sway, not letting the storm up, still not sure as to the mans true intent. He did have a point, the actions of the bijutsukai were only felt by Konohagakure no sato at the present moment, and its people had to pay with the cost of one. But what was one life against that of those who couldn't stand for themselves, or those who would follow those who pass from this time. The honor of Konohagakure went deeper then the loss of one shinobi, although all losses were felt, they were only twigs among-st the many lying on the ground. One twig by itself does not do much for the fire to burn, but when many twigs are gathered, the flame grows stronger. This was Konohagakure no sato resolve, a flame that burns brightest in the face of hardship.
Her eyes narrowed as she listened, her head slouching forward a bit as her own words echoed in her mind.
"We, the ninja of the village have grown beyond fear and lies...
Suzaku-san "
She said softly, as she looked back up to him.
"To cast doubt in the hard times befalling us, on the one man who is to be our shield against the dark night, who has to follow in the shoes of Uzamaki Naruto-sama....
Will lead us down a path, dark and twisted in its ways... To doubt Lord Hokage's inaction or action is to doubt our own strength as a village...
This path, we have walked before... as the stories go of the events leading up to the war...Seeds of distrust and doubt... Of the hardships of old times...
To say that this one life, although kin to some "
She said, looking over at Osamaru.
"Is greater then the village, casts a shadow on the man that was chosen to be our leader...
A shadow, that will take root in the strongest heart, and sow the seeds of destruction...
No, Suzaku-san.
It is not fear, of us that Lord Hokage has...
It is love."
Her words echoed softly, like a ripple in a pond. Something was changed in her, the icy glare gone from her eyes, as she remembered Naruto-sama, and all he had done for the village, the world even.
"If Lord Hokage Masahige-sama truly feared us, he would not take steps to disguise his efforts of hiding the Jinchuuriki Sarutobi Sio. If what you say is true, and that it was a ruse, he did this to save her life no doubt and guard her from this group that seeks to take the demon from her and thus kill her...
If what you say, is true, then Masahige-sama more then likely has hidden her away and done this so none come looking, she is probably more protected at this moment if this is true...then any other person in the world "
She said, as she came into the realization that it was not a deceit the Hokage had performed, but it must have been a ruse to make these Bijutsukai not come looking for Sio anymore. It had to be this, for Mara believed Masahige-sama would not end the life of a young shinobi just to appease the whims of some weird group whose intent was unknown.

Boy, did these two sure like to monologue. It was fine, to an extent. Showed their passion on the topic or something. It also gave Osa plenty of time to poke holes in whatever argument that they decided to place on the table. As such, he would address his issues in their respective order.
"Uchiha-san," he said in a more neutral voice, this whole things was getting out of hand. "Nobody is so naive as to believe the Hokage infallible. He is a man, just like you and me, but more importantly he is a shinobi. By nature of our occupation we embrace the negative aspects of this world and utilize it to our benefit. Deception, murder, and the like are simply tools of the trade." He glanced towards Mara and then returned his attention to Suzaku. Guess it was his time to monologue. "But as Kyûin-san said we have just lost a leader. The village is already on edge because of the clown and Masahige-sama's decision hasn't helped that. It is times like this when he have to trust that our leader will act in the best interest of the village, whether we agree with his actions or not. Questioning his motives right now does a disservice to everyone."
With a sigh Osa shook his head. Pushing the tea cup he had away from him.
"Nevertheless, your focus is misdirected, Uchiha-san. As you said the threat we face is an external one. Put your mind to dealing with the Bijūtsukai before attempting to undermine the Hokage further," he looked back at Mara. "The two of you should work on this together. Kyûin-san can obtain permission from someone of appropriate rank while Uchiha-san can begin thinking of ways to track the bastards down."
Hopefully, this would put an end to all this talk of treason and doubt in Konohagakure's newest leader. Somewhere in this meeting things had gotten derailed, but maybe now things could get back on track.

It was quite a shining endorsement that Mara provided for the present Hokage, full of emotion, support, and admiration. Truth be told, there was a part of Suzaku that wished he could share in the same kind of wide-eyed idealism that she seemed to display in that moment. He even smiled a little, allowing himself to enjoy for the moment the depth of her words. Were he younger and experiencing the same kind of doubt, he might even have found them moving.
But hearing them applied to Kusunoki Masahige had him wondering if Mara had ever even met the man.
The time when he had been willing to trust so readily in the goodness of others was long behind him, and while he was not quite bitter, he was certainly more discerning now. Masahige was one individual that he could not truly bring himself to place faith in; he was neither cruel nor even particularly cold, but he was not Lord Naruto. It didn't help that the Uchiha hadn't placed much faith in the latter figurehead either.
"Very well," Suzaku said in response to Osamaru's suggestions. He wasn't promising that he'd actually adhere to them, but he realized that he'd pushed them about as far as he could. Much more effort to sway their minds, and they might get more actively upset. He didn't want that. "If you are willing to fill that role, Mara, then I will await word from you on these matters. If you wish, Osamaru, you may share my plans with Kumogakure. Based on Lord Raikage's reaction, I imagine he may want to take a proactive stance as well."
Was he really going to wait for them? Maybe. Certainly not if it took more than a few days to get some movement on these things; he was still convinced that they didn't have that much time. "I suppose we are done here, then," he said, standing to see his guests out as a good host should. "But, as you go, I ask you to keep three things in mind." He actually counted them off on his fingers, pausing briefly between each of them. "One: A deception targeted at those within Konoha, regardless of its intent, will in no way delay the efforts of hostile elements outside of it. Two: if I am correct, and I hope that I am not, the threat to the Nine-Tails jinchuriki has only increased. And three: Lord Masahige was appointed by the council, not by Lord Naruto. According to the laws of the Land of Fire, he is not truly the Hokage until all the Jônin of the village have had their say."
He dropped his hand, then offered a curt bow. "Once more, I thank you both for coming." he said. He hoped they would not linger; even now there was much to be done.

She had to think for a moment on this. While Suzaku did have a point to his thoughts, and it was brought back that the enemy would not go away.
"I will think on it, but first thing first...
To speak with Masahige-sama about a task force for this..."
She said, as in portraying that one would be needed or at least the sanctioning to be given to those involved to create such a task force and carry out missions in response to their enemy. She would halt the storms overhead, and finally relax a bit, but not dropping her guard. She had said her peace, and with nothing more, she would leave on that note.
