Fresh off of breaking down the Mizukage's door and sprinting towards the villages gates the Jounin had only walked for roughly a couple hours before he began to see the never ending coast in the horizon. He had a love-hate relationship with Mizu no Kuni. On one hand there were beaches literally all around... more or less, but considering it was an island getting anywhere off this floating rock was a pain in the ass. Most people took boats, and surely that could have been the case for him, but considering the final destination there was probably no one that would make such a trip. Besides, they only traveled from one island to the next or to the coast of another country which would have taken him completely out of the way. Granted, Gouben rarely got a chance to leave his home and travel to different places but walking through a minimum of three different countries to reach his destination was too much a pain in the ass.
What was the destination, you ask? Simple: Kumogakure. Yep, the home of those cloud babies was soon to be graced by the divine presence of none other than Nai Gouben. His mission? Retrieve one of the legendary swords of the Mist, Samehada to be exact. Unfortunately, the Mizukage had told him to be diplomatic and all that other mumbo jumbo so simply barging in the place and causing havoc until he found the sword was, regrettably, out of the question. No matter, he was determined to still have an excellent time, but first he had to get there.
Masked eyes looked out upon the open ocean as it would soon become the path more traveled. Yep, Gouben was going to walk on the water the entire way to Kaminari no Kuni. The distance was indeed grand but there were a few small islands in between to stop and rest so the threat of exhaustion was null. The day still young and hardly a cloud in the sky this had turned out to be a perfect day for walking the high seas! "CAN YOU HEAR ME CLOUD BABIES, I'MMA COMMIN FOR YOU!!" He screamed out into the emptiness before taking his first steps on top of the water. Fairly calm all things considered, though he had lived here long enough to know that the seas could change in the blink of an eye.
Hours later and Gouben was practically walking on all fours, it was so damn boring! He had went from walking, to skipping, to hopping, and everything in between. He had even knocked on the water and screamed underneath a couple times to try and wake the fish up. Alas, nothing worked and there was nothing but blue in every direction. "This suuuuucks, I wanna ride a dolphin!" He was in the middle of a full blown temper tantrum with no one around to console him, like there was anyone who could in the first place. "Rinrin-sama making me walk all the way out here and for what, to bring back that ungrateful leech of a sword Samehada? Psssh, I could suck chakra a hundred times better than that damn thing!" Yep, the man had resorted to talking to himself, or rather, just spewing out random blurbs aimed at Samehada hoping just a little bit that the blue eye sore could hear him. Of course it couldn't but it never hurt to try.
Night was soon to fall hours later and Gouben would take refuge on one of the larger islands in the chain near Kaminari no Kuni. He had made quite a good distance but was pretty beat, all things considered. After making a fire and filling his stomach on what he assumed to be edible herbs the swordsman passed right the hell out, and there he slumbered for three days. Turned out that one of those herbs was a powerful tranquilizer and had knocked the grown man out cold. Not to mention the amount of chakra he had used in walking over that vast amount of water. Normally it would be negligible, but crossing an ocean was an entirely different matter.
As he awoke a yawn straight from the bowls of hell bellowed from the masked man. "Ooooooooh man, how long was I out? Better get a move on or Rinrin is gonna kill me." A few excessive stretches later and the man had departed once more, granted in the wrong direction but after a couple hours he had figured it out and righted the course. The remaining journey over the water took about three hours and in no time flat Gouben had reached the rocky, uneventful coast of Kaminari no Kuni. Looking around, all he could see where mountains, more mountains, a goat being chased by an eagle, and even more mountains. "Meeeeeh, boooooooring. Would it kill them to plant a few trees every now and then?" Indeed this place was vastly different from the lush, green pastures of Mizu no Kuni which was beautiful even if covered in a dense fog most of the time.
"Hmmm, I think itsssssssssss, that way!" The man pointed in a random direction before sprinting off. Was he right? Only by the grace of the heavens, though maybe their was a brilliant individual under all that crazy. Nah, it was purely dumb luck. Another few hours and the mountainous region would give way to reveal a... mountainous region, except this time there were big gates that looked to lead into the mountain. "Aha, found ya cloud babies!" Alright, remember what Rinrin-sama said, gotta be cool." Gouben pepped to himself as he attempted to straighten out any wrinkles in his full body suit. All the ironing in the world still wouldn't have made that briny smell go away though.
