56 years ago | Near the Taki/Iwa Borders Taikichi Seishin: age 12 Back before the yesteryear, to the clouded past near the end of the war. It had been four years since the war was over, and many villages were rebuilding. The young boy, Taikichi was taking to his studies, but had gone on sabbatical to visit his mother in Tsuchi no kuni. With a turtle shell on his shoulder, but none of the regalia he wears in the present day, the young Seishin took to a modest clearing in Taki no Kuni that over looked the borders into Tsuchi no kuni
As he looked out over the land, he realized the majesty of the place and the view from these cliffs were somewhat astonishing. Such a place, was sure to have power here, so with a wicked grin he sat down.
"Yayoi, you think there is a spirit here we could barter into a totem?
Taikichi I dont know, this place seems, off...like there is weird energy here"
He ask, seemingly to no one. A response came but only to his ears, as he looked to the turtle shell on his shoulder. Disregarding Yayoi, the young kid concentrated as he marked out an area and began the ritual.
"Do, Fu, Sui, Ka, Rai, spirits of the elements, of the land...of the mother and the father, I call to you
I call for a champion, great and powerful---come to me"
He intoned, as he did the weather began to pick up. The sky began to grow darker, as soft rumbling could be heard. The clouds overhead crackled as lightning ripped through the sky and the storm grew darker, the land now dark and absent of light.
"Yayoi---this isn't how its supposed to work...
Taikichi, the ritual was wrong!
What do you mean it was wrong, I did like we always do!
No, Tai-kun, you didn't ask for a specific spirit, you asked for a champion...Spirits will come when called but if you leave the doorway open for any old spirit...a dark one may answer
What do you mean a dark one?
I mean---LOOOK OUT!"
The wind ripped around them as they argued, until a blue shell manifested made from chakra to cover him as a tree broke against the shell. There by the cliff edge wielding what was left of a broken tree and standing some twenty feet tall was a glowing red and black entity. Lightning crackling in the sky, and the ground steaming around it. It boiled with living black fire, and electricity danced around it, but the only word that could describe it was evil. A gut wrenching ill feeling emanating from the beast as it leaned back and roared in triumph.
"HUMAN CHILD, I COME AT YOUR REQUEST---NOW GIVE ME YOUR FLESH SO I MAY BE LOOOSED UPON THE WORLD"
The demonic voice roared, causing Taikichi to seize up on the ground as rain began to pour down. Things were not looking good.

Deep within the realm of spirits, the ocean of life rippled ever so gently. Something had broken its surface, pulled through by a magical force beyond control.
Humans. The word was thought with disdain, and as it was the infinite night above the ocean grew alight with a hundred million stars. They blinked in and out rapidly, some brighter than others, and some in strange colors that could not be comprehended by the mortal eye. These were the souls of people with chakra; the shinobi of the world.
The ocean of life rippled again as something within it began to take form. Antlers the size of trees emerged from the waves, and they swiveled like dangling necklaces. Soon they found the star that had created the ripple. Beside that star was a great blackness, burning with flame and crackling with lightning. It was an evil spirit of malice and cannibalism., eager to run amuck in the mortal realms.
Seiryuu could not have that.
The ocean of life evaporated, turning into a massive rolling fog of cool white mist. It rolled through the worlds, crossing spaces far too vast and times far too old. To both Taikichi and the demon, it appeared as if a great explosion of smoke had occurred in the heart of the forest where the ritual had begun.
A deep rumbling could be heard within, and a sweltering heat fell like a blanket over the southwestern border of Taki no Kuni. An immense chakra, too large and too wild to be called human, was so thick in the air one didn’t need to be a sensor to feel it.
The falling rain dared not touch this fog. Above, the clouds split, revealing the life-giving light of the sun. The fog was cast away by these beams, revealing the creature within, crowned by a halo of storm.
Seiryuu was a massive dragon, easily long enough to wrap around mountains several times over. He levitated in the air, coiled over and over again, with deep blue scales covering his massive girth. Along the back of his serpentine body were a thousand spines, each one black and glinting in the light. But all of these details were irrelevant when Seiryuu’s head turned to face the demon and his summoner.
Antlers the size of redwood trees stabbed into the sky, both covered in several dozen twines. Long whiskers of white fluttered in the breeze, and a beard as long as waterfalls hung from Seiryuu’s jaw. But his eyes…
Seiryuu’s eyes were a pair of massive gold nuggets, and they were filled with a wisdom and life that spanned millenia. Long, narrow slits focused in on the two souls before him--or, as he discovered, three given the turtle shell--and from his snout a fine white steam was exuded with each exhale.
A rumbling sound filled the air, which soon turned into a deep voice of inhuman timbre. “Why have you entered this world, shadow of life? And why have you summoned him, human child?”

Taikichi looked up from the shell as he withdrew from the being. Man this was getting serious real fast, and he wasn't the kind of kid who really went around fighting demons and getting involved with dragons. He was way out of his league.
"What----I didn't summon him---I wanted a champion not some crazy demon idiot!!!"
Taikichi yelled as the dragon questioned him.
"YOU!!! DRAGON LIGHT, NOT YOUR CONCERN---THIS IS BETWEEN ME AND THE HUMAN CHILD!"
Came the demonic roar as what could be considered a grin formed. The demon came forward towards Taikichi, but the boy stood up. There was something in his eyes, a fire, a light that spoke of power, something the world had not seen before.
"You want some of me ugly?! FINE!"
Taikichi roared, as he focused, energy rippling around him as the shell faded from view and then grew onto his back. His body began to glow with a weird light, and to both the demon and Seiryuu they could see something far greater then a boy. He grew, as a spirit, looking to be a warrior made of spirit bound around his own form.
"BOY WANTS TO PLAY? DELICIOUS?!"
Came the demonic response, as the beast himself readied a stance. Taikichi had no chance of defeating him, but he had guts, he had spirit. The two of them raced at each other, and the beast swung its massive spirit claw at the boy. But then something happened, you see normal ninja and humans couldn't interact with spirits let alone fight them hand to hand. But Taikichi's hand, caught that claw.
"WHAT?!"
Screamed the beast as he glared down and the spiky haired punk, his white hair flowing in the wind.
"THATS RIGHT SMART ONE, KIDS GOT SKILLS!"
He yelled, as he pulled his arm back and laid a heavy punch while jumping upwards into the demons face. He landed the blow on the demon, sending its head back a bit. But that was it, as the demon grinned and gripped Taikichi's hand, it then turned and tossed the boy right off the cliff.

The demon had the gall to scream at Seiryuu, and the dragon’s golden eyes watched silently as it and the boy began to fight. Taikichi had guts and spirit alright, and when those two combined, they created a boiling pot of unmatched stupidity. The dragon hadn’t expected Taikichi to be able to catch the demon’s fist, but crazier things had happened in its long and ancient life. It was true that David had killed Goliath, but the gap between this child and his foe was far greater than man and giant. It was like the baboon that tried to catch the moon; Taikichi saw hope, but like the moon, it was only a reflection in the pond of his life.
When Taikichi was thrown off the cliff, Seiryuu was half-tempted to just let him fall to his death. But the moment he died, the demon would be loosed upon the world, that much was clear. A spiritual tether connected the two, one that only a great spirit could comprehend. If the boy died, untold havoc would be unleashed. That couldn’t be allowed to happen.
“Yin and Yang, hear my call,” Seiryuu rumbled. As he spoke, birds flew from their trees and zebras ran into the deep jungles. “Cleanse this life of its misbegotten destiny.”
When the chant finished, Taikichi’s vision went black, and when light returned to his world, he’d be submerged in a deep pond just beneath the cliff. A towering waterfall ran from the lip of the stone, creating a fine mist to spray him with.
Seiryuu turned to the demon, his gaze fierce. “Shadow of life, you come into the realm of the living and dare to touch it with your foul claws. I hereby sentence you to the deepest trenches of the afterlife.”
At that, the storm around Seiryuu shattered like glass, causing a tsunami of sunlight to wash over Taki no Kuni. The foul taint the demon had fathered had been purified, and soon his soul would be reduced to ashes.

As he fell he looked up to the sky, seeing the dragon descend and thinking Damn...sucks...hate to go out this way as he plummeted earthbound. The splashes shook him, as he sank beneath the waves, his mind growing dark, the impact took a lot out of him and as he sank lower it became harder to breath. Didn't even get to give him my name... He thought as he sank lower. The turtle shell began to glow, as Yayoi awoke again, surrounding him in a shell and slowly bringing the sinking boy back to the surface. The turtle spirit would bring him to the shoreline of the water, as the boy sputtered up liquid and coughed, getting air back into his lungs.
The demon howled as the dragon descended upon it, rearing back to strike, before the sun broke through the clouds. The storm blew off as the demon glared into the dragons eyes, roaring in agony.
"WHAT?! NOOOOOOO---YAGAMI-SEIRYUU YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!"
Screamed the demon as his living body was reduced to ash and he was sent back through the barrier into the spirit realm. A smoky mark left in his wake, as the dragon banished the demon, leaving him here with the boy and the other spirit.

The demon’s ashes were scattered on the winds, and the light purified them. Animals began to creep out of their dens, and birds went back to their nests to take care of their young.
Seiryuu continued to float above it all. To everything below him he was a god; a powerful dragon that knew no limits to its power. But something had caught his eye today, and it was a rare thing that any mortal creature could draw his attention. Seiryuu found it uncanny that a human had the power to summon such a vengeful demon, and rarer still that the human could stop its punch. Seiryuu turned his ancient gaze to the sputtering boy lying in the mud, and his mighty head lowered to hover just above the pond.
The crashing waterfall seemed to mute itself as he spoke. “Human child, what is your name?”
The pond Taikichi had crawled out of began to dry up. Likewise, the waterfall evaporated on the rocks, leaving behind wet mud and slick rock in its place. A brilliant rainbow extended from the cliff, the base of it touching down on Taikichi’s body.

As he sat up, he grimaced his arm where the demon had grabbed, some light red marks there but nothing too dangerous.
"The names Taikichi, Dragon---whats your name?"
He asked in a punkish kind of tone as he sat up and grinned. He propped his elbows against his knees as he sat crisscross on the ground, grinning from ear to ear as if something amazing or amusing had happened.

“You are a fool to ask the name of a dragon, Taikichi.” At that Seiryuu lifted his head high into the air. Birds came to rest on his great antlers and snout, and his golden eyes continued to observe the child.
He was a spirit walker. Seiryuu did not know where Taikichi had learned his art, but he had learned to communicate and even control spirits. And though other humans in the past had held this power, few contained the same roiling potential as this child. How many hundreds of years had it been since he had seen a human with such potential? The answer was forgotten in the mists of time that Seiryuu had come from, but it did not matter. Taikichi was worthy of the gift he was about to be given.
“From this day forward, Taikichi, you shall take on the middle name Ryutasukaru, the Dragon Saved, and when I call upon you, you will come.” With each word Seiryuu’s massive claws approached the child. One tapped his forehead, gently, and when it removed itself the blue tip was dyed red with blood. “This is the price you must pay for me saving your life, and for me granting you this knowledge.”
A second claw pulled a scale from his snout and dropped it before Taikichi. The scale was the size of an adult humans body, and wider than the biggest scrolls. The drop of blood Seiryuu had drawn from the human child was dropped on the scale, and the moment the two came into contact, the blood wove itself into intricate kanji and seals.
“Prove me right, and when I call upon you Taikichi, you will be stronger than all of your peers. Prove me wrong, and when I call upon you, the task given will sing for your death.”
Slowly, the dragon’s body began to melt away, turning into vapor and steam. “And as for my name,” he began, his voice notably lighter than before, “you may call me Seiryuu, the Blue Dragon of the East and God of Waterfalls. Farewell, young human. Never forget this day.”
And with that, Seiryuu was gone, returned from whence he came. The birds that had sat on his snout flew away, going into the depths of the forest.

He looked up at the dragon as he felt the claw, and then looked to teh scale. In the writing he could see things, words and stories woven in the mirrored edge and sheen of the scale. When the dragon formed the pact, Taikichi looked up. Odd that a dragon would make such a pact with a human, but Taikichi didn't know he was unlike many other humans or ninja for that matter. In time he would understand, but on this day he just kind of watched the dragon and nodded like a dummy.
"Seiryuu... I'll remember that name"
He said as the dragon took off towards the clouds. One thing was certain, the years to come, these two would meet again. After all, a bond such as this was not one that could be broken or taken lightly.
