SPIRALKID, CHAPTER TWO: RITE OF PASSAGE Things have changed dramatically over the last week or so, Minato found himself obsessing over training. The acquisition of strength was the only thing he found tracing his thoughts lately; in fact, he hadn't even been home in the last week. He'd been staying over his grandmother's part of the compound, keeping her company seemed like an obligation he had to fulfill. Not that he didn't like or want to, because that wasn't the case, at all.
Growing up as a child he spent more time with his grandparents than he did with his own parents - especially his grandpa, Naruto and Minato had a weird connection, a bond that seemed to transcend the times. With him gone, being with his grandmother was the only thing that seemed to keep him going. His bond with her was one that rivaled his bond with Naruto. In the past week, the training he used to receive as a kid was resumed, and Minato was once again developing new distinction to his abilities, learning new methods for chakra utilizing chakra and performing Ninjutsu.
Panting over a cratered field with various forms of weaponry littering the ground, Minato heaved as his clung to his chest. It was safe to say that Sakura's training regime is thirty times more difficult than Naruto's ever was. He never realized this information until a couple days ago.
"Get up, Minato!" yelled Sakura, her faded pink hair swaying in the faint breeze that passed as she trudged toward him with a blank stare. Despite her age, she still moved and carried herself like she did in her prime, albeit obviously not as fast or sturdy as she once was. "You're training isn't over yet!" she pointed her thumb down toward her hip where a red string connected to a silver bell dangled from her belt.
Struggling to his feet, beads of sweat dripped down his temples. He was over taken to surprise, he never saw his grandma engage in combat, and now he knew why. Her prowess was tremendous. Even when holding back, as she reassured him she was, she was still able to crater the ground around them and make direct combat nearly impossible.
"Your grandfather and I did this same training back when we were Genin," said Sakura, recalling the first official meeting she and her former teammates had in detail. "Your dad did, too."
"I know..." he huffed, collecting himself. "I just don't see how I'm going to take a bell from you by myself. Every time I get close, you destroy everything around us." He said pointing to the ruined field.
'I don't see how gramps ever became Hokage with Grandma around...her power is scary.' Back on his feet finally, his arms out stretched as he limbered up again. Drifting off for a second, Sakura contemplated what her grandchild said for a moment. Although the mindset it appeared that he had wasn't the right one to have, she couldn't fault him much because he was right.
"Alright," she folded her arms across her chest, a tiny smile assimilated upon her age ridden face. "Go change clothes and wash-up. We're about to go visit your father."

SPIRALKID, CHAPTER TWO: RITE OF PASSAGE The walk to his father's house was a long one. During the entire ten minutes it took to get there his gaze was facing the ground; no, he wasn't sad or depressed, but rather he was lost at thought and tried to figure out what purpose going there served. Despite all of his efforts though, he was unable to figure it out.
Only moments after arriving, he could see his father standing at the entry of the barricade that separated the housing districts within his family's compound. Sato was dressed in an informal attire today, which was a rare thing for him. Minato assumed that today was his father's day off, which was the only time that he ever recalled seeing his father dress in an informal garb. A warm smile settled onto Sakura's face upon seeing her son, pulling him into her embrace with a hug.
"Sato," she started, "Your father's scroll. It's time that it was given to Minato."
"What?" he uttered in a fit of surprise, glancing down at Minato he shook his head. "No. He isn't ready to sign the contract He's still just a Genin."
"Naruto himself signed the contract when he was his age--"
"But he also had the Demon Foxes chakra to call on," quipped Sato, interjecting in his brash tone. "Minato doesn't."
"Sato..." Sakura spoke, letting her voice trail off for a second as she gathered her thoughts. Standing beside his grandmother, looking up at his dad protesting, he gritted his teeth. "You will stunt Minato's growth as a ninja if you keep interfering with his training. He isn't the same as you were at your age."
An awkward silence lasted for almost thirty seconds.
"Alright," said Sato, turning to go back into his home.

SPIRALKID, CHAPTER TWO: RITE OF PASSAGE Standing in a calm spring, with the crystal blue water flowing beneath their feet, Minato, Sato, and Sakura each looked down upon the large green scroll which Sato had unwound and rolled out in front of them. A look that warranted extreme annoyance rested upon his features. Even though he was no stranger to the Great Toads, his relationship with them was a fleeting one.
"Your Grandmother wants me to pass the 1Scroll of the Toad Sages down to you. Despite my better judgement as your father," he stopped speaking for a second, stealing a glance at Sakura before continuing, "I will do as my father intended and allow you to sign this scroll." He told Minato, peaking down at the scroll rolled out below.
"Eh..." mumbled the spiral ninja, looking around for a moment. "You mean the summoning jutsu?" Asked Minato, resting his laced-fingers behind his yellow mop.
"Yes," interjected Sakura, stepping forth with a grin. "Have you heard of it?"
"Yup. Grandpa told me about it not too long ago. He said that one day he'd teach me how to use it, but... " his voice trailed off, hi glare slanted. "That didn't go like he planned."
"Good. You know a little about it, so I won't have to explain everything. Just write your name in blood on the next slot of the scroll, and then print your finger tips at the very bottom."
"Huh?" Minato's face scrounged up. "Is that all? This is not as cool as I thought it would be."
"Minato-kun," called Sakura, "Go on."
Nodding, he leaned down on one knee as he lifted his thumb to his mouth. Pressing the tip of his thumb against one of his canine, his mouth watered with discomfort as his blood dripped onto his tongue. "Alright," he said pressing his thumb onto the scroll's page, "U-zu-ma-ki Min-a-to" he mouth as he wrote his name.
Tapping each of his remaining four fingers against his thumb, he dabbed all five of his finger tips against the scroll's parchment as he completed signing his name. "There. All done. So what're the hand-signs for this jutsu?"
"Tori. Inoshi. Saru. Ramu." Sato said taking a step back. "Those are the hand-signs you will need to do after offering up a bit of blood for the summoning."
Kicking the coiled end of the scroll, it recoiled and sealed it self off as it rolled over to Minato. "Your Grandpa meant for you to be the keeper of that scroll, so it's yours now." Turning and nodding towards Sakura, the old maiden acknowledged her son with nod of her own. "I have a mission I have to prep for so I'll leave you two to your training."
