As I start writing posts that I need to 'finally' reply to, trying to have a presence on the site again, I just felt like chatting with you all about simply, well-anything.
We're all writers here, different preferences, styles and whatnot. Just trying to have a good time with pitting our imaginations together. It's been rewarding all the while.
I suppose I'll start off with just general small talk.
Earlier this week, I found on my laptop some older, non-Naruto pieces of writing I put together some time ago. Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Legend of Five rings, some Steampunk one shots I've attempted in the past, and so forth. Reading those revitalized my desire to RP here again once my RL situation quiets...and at the same time it diminished some.
I think namely in other fictions/universes, I'm used to a larger diversity and pseudo-realism(I use the term very loosely) that isn't always portrayed in Naruto roleplay that I am used to. Yet, Naruto is largely more accessible sans the complexity. Many times have I've seen up and coming role-players in other series, like the Old Republic, for not knowing some of the more trivial intricacies of lore get torn to shreds by a very demanding community. So it is relaxing to know that I won't find that here.
Yet, my "best" writing(my opinion) came from such settings. I still look over my Blood Elf from Warcraft and get a bit tickled when I revisit the personalty of said characters. I do miss flintlock pistols, airships, and mages in corsets. Not just the setting, but the circumstances tend to bring forth a larger spectrum of characters that many anime settings-or in this case, Naruto doesn't seem to make the norm.
However, because we have exceptional writers I am delighted so see us portray a more diverse, as I won't use the worth authentic, types of characters. Characters with more complexity than "I want to save everyone and be Hokage."
So yeah, muddle thoughts there. What about you guys? Ever feel inspired by your old works? Naruto or otherwise? Do you ever scrutinize the setting? Consider missed potential? Have snippets of writing you want to share?
Floor is open.

Truth be told, Naruto has never been my preferred location of RP. The restrictions that come with chakra more often than not serve as a hindrance to my ideas. Nevetheless, this site meets the standard to which I RP. Or perhaps I'm just allotted enough freedom here to as I please. Who knows?
In any case, I try to make do with the setting and try to discover new ways to make Naruto interesting. The criminal underworld, the actual lives of the bijū, political power struggles, etc. At the very least, I try to be innovative with my jutsu and character concepts.
I've been RPing for a decade at least. Started with Harry Potter. Moved to Star Wars, then Pokemon, then Naruto, and the list goes on. In all that time I discovered that I enjoy myself more in magical worlds. Things ideally should be simple in that case, which is why I enjoy the idea of a Fairy Tail RP. At the end of the day, I can RP in any setting. Just as long as there are strong stories within it.

Hn. For me, Naruto was the first thing I ever RP'd. It started with just being about fun and emulating what I saw in the show, but from a different point of view. It was my own being, my own 'existence' but in new world where the laws (although stated) are governed completed by myself and those I wrote with.
That's why I write.
Naruto, in my opinion, is pretty liberal and gives you a lot of innovative outlets and freedoms that you can exploit; although, I discovered, I write other more...unfamiliar things better. For me, if there's a guide line or limitations that I must adhere to, I can't fully tap into my full potential. I discovered this when I first RP'd outside of Naruto (like when I RP'd Bleach and Fairy Tail).
I like 'magical' worlds where I can say the impossible is possible. That's not very specific but my specifications are pretty much around the same as those aforementioned in you guys' posts.
In regards to Shimada's question, I am usually very surprised by the things I read that I've made in the past. I usually overly scrutinize most things I write as I am typing them, so when I go back and read them later- generally I get taken aback quite a bit because the scenes, characters, and concepts are usually completely different than what I am doing at that time. Which is the beauty of writing, in my opinion.
PLUG: I've been pushing around the idea, and I've been wanting to make a "custom" site. By that I mean, a world where we, the members/staff come up with everything. I've seen a couple sites like that in the past, which are each nicely done in their own way. There lies the inspiration. We have many brilliant minds on this site. If we wanted, I think we could make something amazing. If you guys would like to work with me on this, just let me know.

I think this right there resonates with me the most. I notoriously find chakra to be such a conumdrum of counter acting rules and faux systems that just makes it extremely difficult what to base a characters attributes around. It was created for Kishimto to explain why his characters can do the things they do, center some idea of systematic logic into his narrative, but he seems to forget, ignore, or tack on new concepts as they come, often making it not difficult-but just frustrating to work within the world if trying to be accurate.
I found out that people who opt to write books from the Star Wars canon actually have to send their works through a lore team, to ensure concepts flow and fit to the era of the franchise. Now with as robust as the Star Wars universe is things obviously get through the cracks or contradict one thing or another and literacy retcons are often introduced. (Darth Karrid anyone?).
Kishimoto obviously just goes off his own head canon. Or worst, the studio with licensing to his work just comes up with whatever weekend episode quota they need to satisfy at one time. Continuity isn't their focus, which can push up blood pressure a bit.
In any case, I try to make do with the setting and try to discover new ways to make Naruto interesting. The criminal underworld, the actual lives of the bijū, political power struggles, etc. At the very least, I try to be innovative with my jutsu and character concepts.
You do a good job of that, I'll add. If Naruto wasn't geared towards the budding audience and was a bit more mature/darker, I'd have to imagine the world would be a much more sinister, and by that-realistic place.

The problem with this is that many cases there is so much work put into the inception that I never gets past the conceptualization stage. And while we may have a collection of creative talent, schedules and time frames are far more dynamic now.
In 2006? Sure, the time, energy, and lack of responsibilities was there.
I'm not certain how others lives have evolved in the near eight year mark since we've been together.
But tying into the topic, what setting would you think would work the best? Something magic? Empires? Futuristic? Clock Work? I'm interested in less on the fact on building a site and more on just what bits and pieces that you'd think would merge together, knowing what we know now, to draw out the most potential in our writing preferences.

Ever since I was introduced to this site a long time ago my favorite part was creating characters, and developing storylines through RP with other people. Its great to see all the different styles of writing, its amazing how much talent has collected on this site over the years. Though I dont have a vast knowledge of the naruto verse this is still the funnest site I have been on, and the people here are very helpful. I basically use this site as a way to practice my writing in a place where other writers can give constructive criticism without completely bashing my work.
Must say I would love to find other sites to Rp on other the Naruto, expand my rp to other worlds for a change of pace. Whether it be a site base around an already existing story or a completely custom world its interesting to see the way other people set up their worlds and main plots. In time I would like to create a site based on a story that I have been working on for a while, though I think my writing could use a little more work. Not to mention get my own cp so I can focus on my writing, and have more time to do the extra work required. If I was to have to pick a favorite type of world to write about, it would be one with swords, magic, and things like that where there is more freedom to be creative... not usually a big fan of modern or future based ones. How about you guys?
