A faint scent of smoke filled the room. Standing on the top of a cabinet, the sound of his wooden geta clicking as he stepped onto the wooden windowsill, peaking through the glass at the adobes outside. Today was a windless day, which was rather odd, not that it bothered the golden furred cat who diligently smoked his pipe.
The folds of his black haori slipped forward as he turned his back to the window before jumping down from the windowsill and onto the chair that sat in front of his desk, which was seldomly ever as tidy as it was in its current condition. Wrapped in a plastic bag, sitting on the edge of his desk on top of a pile of manila folders, he reached down and picked up his kizami before placing pinches into his pipe. Biting the bit, he inhaled slowly, columns of smoke drifted into the air again.
"Matamune-dono! You have a visitor." a voice called from behind his closed door, snapping hisfingers paw, he signaled for the guard at the door to open it. To his surprise he saw Kaoru, his assistant, and it was early morning time, she was due to come in for a couple more hours. She was always an overachiever.
"Hello, Kaochan," he greeted her while lifting his pipe to his maw, taking another pull of his kizami. "You're here earlier than normal."
"Kazekage-dono, I was coming to check my schedule, a courier-nin from Konoha had arrived and delivered this scroll for you." She said retrieving the scroll from her pocket, his eyes narrowed inquisitively. Sunagakure and Konohagakure had been allies for decades, since the treaty was signed by Gaara all those years ago, but it was quite peculiar for the Hokage, Naruto, to send him a sign of communication so abruptly. Matamune had a personal friendship, a understanding with the Rokudaime Hokage; but while eying the scroll something felt off, something felt more unusual than ever.
"Hm?" he mused, turning over a couple thoughts as he waved for Kaoru to hand him the scroll. Breaking the seal with his slender nail, he unwound the scroll and skimmed over the particulars.
Processing what he just read took all but a moment. Rolling the scroll, he tossed it back to his assistant. "Kaoru," he pointed to the black door on the far side of his office, "Pack my necessities, and round up __ and __ immediately. I'm leaving for Konoha at noon."
