| Kairai Masuna would be led in the direction of Green Lake (みどりみずうみ, Midorimizūmi), the single largest body of water in the Land of Grass. Located in a deep basin, Green Lake is (despite its name) a massive river deep in a rainforest, near Laboratory Town and the border to the Land of Rain. Before actually reaching the river, Masuna would be taken up a long dirt path lined with trees. On either side of the path, nothing but a vast sea of strange plants with fire-red flower bulbs, seemingly never in bloom. Overhead, the sky threatened with rain. Goromon escorted Masuna to the Blood Prison, located near a cliff that dropped straight down into the crashing waves of the river below. The prison itself was surrounded by a thick and towering wall, and looked more like a castle than anything else. A set of stairs led to the gate. Above the gate, the mantra of the Hidden Grass ANBU... STAND UP, BE STRONG. KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG. FOREVER HENCE, BELIEVE YOURSELF. This place was the Demon Lantern Castle, known by most as the Blood Prison for how strict and brutal laws were enforced in the Land of Grass. Officially, no one has ever been known to have escaped from the prison. Unofficially... at least one person has made it out alive. |
| The gate was opened, and Goromon would take Masuna inside, where a platoon of ANBU greeted him with one distinct leader standing up front. He raised his hand, signalling for Goromon and his charge to stop, as the gate closed with a bang behind them. Two other criminals stood by, waiting to be addressed. "I am Mizuki, the person in charge of this place. The fact that you've been sent here means you have lost all rights as a human being. Therefore, I want you to remember that you are all equally worthless.
Here in the Demon Lantern Castle, our assignment from Hidden Grass is to ensure that those who are sent here do not escape. It is none of our business what your circumstances are.
There are only two ways to leave this place.
First, if your village submits an official request for your release. This only applies to foreigners, those not originally from the Land of Grass. The second way is if you are pardoned by the leader of Hidden Grass, Subori." Mizuki said nothing more, turning from the trio of fresh prisoners as he began to walk away. The two criminals beside Masuna, both men, were shoved forward. Masuna would wait his turn, and bear witness to the short transition between Heavenly Prison seals. The ANBU that had brought the pair in held his hand to both men, clamping it down on their shoulders. One of the ANBU guarding the prison, a man dressed similarly to Mizuki, came forward with his right and left hands glowing red. He touched both prisoners. Simultaneously with the prison ANBU activating Heavenly Prison, the ANBU who brought them in deactivated Heavenly Prison, transferring ownership of the seal from one ANBU to the other. "This is the Heavenly Prison, an imprisonment technique taught to us ANBU by Otoko Kanata, the former leader of Hidden Grass. As long as that seal is upon your body, you will not be able to mold chakra.
When you are a certain distance away from the owner of the seal, Heavenly Prison will kick in and burn you to ashes. When you fight, somehow, you will have to use chakra. If your chakra even so much as twitches, Heavenly Prison kicks in and burns up your body." Goromon explained the seal, as he would place his hand upon Masuna. A different ANBU would repeat the process Masuna just bore witness to, transferring ownership of the seal from Goromon to himself so that Goromon could leave the prison and get back to his duties. |

KUSA NO KUNI Demon Lantern Castle "Cozy." Masuna said, looking about the place. He scratched his bearded chin, unimpressed with the statements he was being given. He wasn't too terribly concerned; he was an anomaly. They would either try to dissect him, or interrogate him, but he wouldn't be left alone for too long. And, depending on how they go about it would depend on his reaction.
Masuna memorizes the face of the shinobi who took ownership of his seal. He would be sure to maintain an awareness of where this particular shinobi was. After the bravado and swagger of the proceedings was done, Masuna waited to be directed to a cell.

| The ANBU would take the fresh prisoners to one of the main buildings, inside which they would be introduced to the main cell block. A single corridor, lined on either side with cell after cell.
The cells appeared to be made from wood. Steel was set into the wood, for structural integrity. Each cell had nothing in it but a mattress with a blanket, and a large wooden bucket off in one corner. The very basic in amenities, it would seem.
Masuna would find himself being taken, along with the two other new prisoners, through the cell block to another corridor at the end. Fellow prisoners shouted at them from their cells, mostly threats of violence. Once out of the main cell block, he along with the other two prisoners would be instructed to sit and wait on a bench.
One by one, the trio would be taken to a back room, where they would be made to strip and their personal effects would be taken from them. Their clothing would be replaced by horizontal striped shirt and pants while their belongings were sequestered away.
Masuna would find himself under much scrutiny.
Long after the other two prisoners had been examined and then processed and taken to their cells, the cyborg would lag behind as the ANBU inspected his limbs. Eventually, though, he too would be taken back into the cell block and crammed in one of the cells. |

Masuna remained silent the entire time his limbs were being inspected. He knew they were checking to see what they could do, and he also knew he wouldn't let them find out. Not just yet, anyways. He needed to retain them.
As he was led back to his cell, the hooting and yelling started up again from the prisoners. Masuna stopped, forcing the ANBU behind him to stop as well, and glanced to one side. The sound slowly died out, as his killing aura manifested itself. His face remained expressionless, but each person with whom he made eye contact knew that he would kill them if they didn't be quiet - even with two ANBU guards behind him.
Once all of the sound had died, Masuna continued on. He was placed in his cell of wood and deigned to sit down on the mattress, crossing his legs and looking all around to take in the surroundings - he needed to memorize everything he saw if he wanted to make use of it later.

| Across from the cyborg's cell, was a hot mess.
The front-facing wall of the cell across from Kairai Masuna was unlike any other in the cell block. The open-squared pattern of wood had been stripped away in some areas, revealing the steel bars inside the wood. The bars themselves even had bite marks on them. Scratches of distress lined the cell walls. All this indicated its inhabitant had spent a great deal of time attempting to break out of her cell.
She was not particularly attractive. That was not to say she did not rock the tattered jail attire she wore, but there was something strange in her appearance. She had the oddest pointed ears, like an elf. Her thick fingernails and toenails all terminated in something of a point, more like claws than anything else. She seemed very pointy. Even her teeth were like rows of small daggers.
The blonde had done her hair up in something of a messy ponytail. Her eyes, though the pupils were small and it was hard to tell the color in the dim light, were a vibrant green. She had no kind of makeup on, though that was to be expected in prison.
Her clothes were rather telling.
The same style of shirt and pants that Masuna himself wore, albeit of a smaller size to more or less fit her frame. They were a tattered mess. Torn... or more accurately, torn at. The pants hung low on her hip. At one time they might have fit her snugly, but now it seemed more like they had been stretched from being violently pulled at dozens of times. What remains of her shirt was in even worse condition.
This presented some unfortunate implications.
Jutting out from one side of her forehead was her most distinguishing feature... a bent horn. The horn was even painted black with white stripes to match her jail attire... humiliating her. The horn, her aggressive nature... she was most definitely a member of the Oni clan of Hidden Grass. Scrawled above her cells was a name, presumably put there by her. If the chicken scratch was to be believed, she was Oni Kinjaku.
Kinjaku lay curled up on her uncomfortable mattress, still wide awake. She was scrunched up, her knees against the rear-facing wall with her arms crossed over her chest. Her eyes were shut tightly, her back to the cyborg in the cell opposite her own. Subtle movements and her overall posture indicated she was clearly not asleep. |

Masuna's Issekigan shone slightly in the dark. From the way he was sitting, shadows fell across his face so that nothing could be seen - except for the golden iris of his artificial eye, now glowing slightly in the dark as his vision changed to a low-light mode, allowing him to more clearly make out the detail in the cell across from him.
"Oi, ogre." He called across. He was referencing the horn poking out from her head, which could be seen even if she was facing away from him. The Oni of myth had such horns, so he called her just that - an ogre. "Do the guards really visit you that little, that you have to claw up the door?"

| Everything suddenly went red.
It was as if the very skin of the woman in the cell across from him was on fire. The artificial eye in the head of the cyborg would see her as a blinding red humanoid figure if he were to switch to infra-red, the heat seemingly rising higher and higher with each passing second.
The blanket fell away as she stood. Heavy chains rattled as she made her way to her feet, turning to face him. Red spread across her skin like a full-body blush, but there was more to it. The red seemed to seep through her skin from the inside-out, changing the pigment of her skin from fair to almost blood red.
Then, movement.
A red fist connected with an exposed bar on the cell wall facing Masuna's cell. The entire wall buckled outward from the impact, wood splintering from the force of it, sending shards scattering across the floor and even into Masuna's own cell. The sound of metal straining, nearing its breaking point. Kinjaku's arm was outstretched, fist firm against the steel bar, but it was still being held back.
Chains connected her wrists to the wall behind her.
The wood there had splintered as well, revealing a thick steel beam within the rear-facing wall of the cell, to which her shackles were attached. She wasn't going anywhere. She would not escape her cell.. not anymore. They would never let her out.
Just as abrupt as her violent reaction had started, it quickly faded. Through the red, a strong glowing pattern emerged. As if some kind of pulse of intense pain wracked her body, the Oni shuddered. Terrible eyes looked at Masuna, hatred and something else. Something different. A kind of pleading look in her eyes. Then, she slowly crumpled to the floor of her cell, unconscious. |
| "What was that?!"
"Was it the she-demon?"
"Kinjaku at it again, eh?"
"Did someone say something to her?"
"What did he say? I didn't hear it."
"I don't know. I didn't hear it, either." A great commotion followed, prisoners speculating as to what just occurred. Only a few of the voices pierced through the veil, and would be heard by the insensitive cyborg. "PIPE DOWN!
New guy offended her, that's all.
That was not a wise move, friend. Oni Kinjaku is one of the few people in this prison still dangerous even with Heavenly Prison branded on her. You're liable to get yourself killed, talking to her like that." From above Masuna's cell, a voice shit down the rabble and spoke directly to Masuna. A hand appeared, dangling from the cell above. It made something of a wave in greeting to Masuna, though its owner could not actually be seen. |

Masuna remained thoroughly unimpressed.
"Well, that's no way to answer a question, ogre." He said, his low-light vision having seen the entire thing. He glanced up at the hand from above. "Didn't your mother ever teach you not to stick your hand into a dark hole, Uchibari-san?" He said, referring to the man above him as the ceiling. Masuna glanced back across at the female captive. So, she had done all that damage and not a single word from any of the guards.
Well, she had answered his question in a way.
Masuna's eye continued to glow golden as he looked around. He could easily enough get out of the cell but the seal on his torso would eventually prove problematic. He needed a way to get the guard that held his seal down here if he were to get out of the place.
"Oi, Uchibari-san - do the guards ever come down here other than to check in new prisoners?"

| "I know what you're thinking, friend.
The one who put the seal on you... you wont see him again. Not unless you want to cause trouble. The guards who placed seals on us don't interact with us prisoners, except to activate the seals when one of us becomes a nuisance.
I saw you come in. Are you, like... some kind of robot? Sent from the future to correct the mistakes of the past? Whatever you are, she will be interested in you, no doubt. Pick you apart and see what makes you tick. Literally, if you're a robot, that is.
You see, the doctor in this prison is-" |
| "The doctor in this prison is me." The voice that cut off the man upstairs was distinctly feminine. It was spoken in something of a bratty tone. Like a child attempting to sound like an adult. The owner of the voice soon came into view. A young woman no older than sixteen approached with several ANBU Medics in tow. The prison was eerily silent. In each cell, each prisoner had crept into the shadows. It was as if they were trying their best not to get noticed. Even the prisoner above Kairai Masuna had withdrawn his hand and gone silent. This was a person that every prisoner in the Blood Prison feared. Considering how most of them wound up in the prison, that was certainly a noteworthy accomplishment. First, she moved to the cell of Oni Kinjaku. The girl placed her hand on one of the exposed bars and leaned in, taking a good look at the unconscious demon inside the cell. She knelt down and reached through the bars, placing her hand on Kinjaku's head. "I would have liked to have seen it in person. Rather than through one of those..." With her free hand, the girl lazily pointed at one of the lanterns. If he looked close enough at any one of them, Masuna would find that a small camera was hidden in the base of each lantern that lined the cell block walls. They gave a clear view of each and every cell, hence why the guards rarely came to the cell block. "Already thinking of escaping, are you?
I suppose I should sort you out, now. The ANBU would like to know who you are, where you are from, and why you are here. I am less concerned with this. I would rather learn how you came to be what you are now. Before you tell me that, would you be kind enough to indulge their queries?" As she spoke, Toshihide Maka indicated to the ANBU with her that she wanted the cell door opened. They obliged, opening Masuna's cell, at which point she slipped inside. One of the ANBU Medics with her produced a small chair, which she promptly sat down upon. |

"If I wasn't, would you be disappointed?" Masuna replied to the statement about him planning his escape. He saw no reason to deny it, after all - he wouldn't be able to escape right now anyways. "I guess I can answer a few questions, the answers hold no value to me anyways." He said with a shrug, his glowing eye deactivating - returning his vision to normal and returning him to the anonymity of the shadows.
He leaned forward, allowing the dim light to spill on him. His eyes went to the lantern, noting the camera hidden within. "Nice. I've got one of those too." He said, tapping his cheek just underneath his fake eye. As the woman and her guards walked in, he tilted his head to the side. "I guess I could give you what you want, provided you work on getting this thing off me." He tapped his abdomen to indicate the seal.
"My name is Kairai Masuna, former ANBU Teichô and guinea pig of Sunagakure no Sato. As to why I'm here - well, I thought it'd be more interesting than wandering around aimlessly." He said, shrugging. "I didn't really have a reason. You kind of lose all of that when you slaughter the people who performed immoral experiments on you and escape before anyone knows you're still alive. By the way, boys, you're standing way too close if you're going to be treating me like a threat." He said to the ANBU.
"Now, what sort of fun questions do you have for me?" He said to the girl, having answered the boring ones. "I'm reeeally bored down here by the way. Got an ogre across from me that doesn't like polite conversation and Uchibari-san upstairs that wants his hand bitten off."

| The ANBU Medics outside his cell remained stoic, all six of them. "I would like you to explain how you came to be, well... this. I imagine you were injured at some point? Tell me of that. Tell me who did this to you, and if you can... how. I would like to know where you were when you were operated on. Where the facility is. I would also like to know if anyone who operated on you survived your departure." Maka gestured to Masuna, inferring she wished to know how he came to be in such a condition. She wanted to know the extent of his injuries. She wanted to know who treated him, and exactly what had been done to him. She wanted to know more than he could tell. To get all the answers, she might just have to dissect him. |

"Tell you what, I'll explain all of that and more..." He stood up, his hand moving from behind him and showing a technique scroll that had been hidden in a leg compartment, unchecked by those at the prison. "... I'll even give you this. It contains detailed information on the Jussaku no Jutsu, which is how they made me." He slipped the scroll behind his back, depositing it whence it came with some sleight-of-hand.
"All for the low-low price of taking this seal off me, and opening that door. I've cooperated thus far out of curiosity alone, but I'd rather not have some random incompetent with the ability to light me on fire by stepping too far outside to take a piss." The man crossed his arms, leaning back against the wall behind him while waiting for his request to be responded to.

| Maka's eye fixated on the scroll. After the cyborg put it away, she stared at him a moment, as if studying him. Finally, she turned her head to the right to look at one of the ANBU Medics, and gave him a nod. Immediately, he turned and vanished into thin air. She then turned her head to the left to look at another of the guards with her, and gave him a nod as well. He stepped forward and unlocked Masuna's cell, opening the door for him. Maka took a step back to give him space. "Alright, he will be meet up with us in the prison yard to remove the Heavenly Prison from your body. In the meantime, talk. I am still curious." Dissection could wait. If the scroll was indeed what he said it was, then dissection would not even be necessary. |

"I was a respected Teichô of Sunagakure's ANBU." Masuna began, speaking once the ANBU left. "During a debrief with the Kazekage, there was an attack. I was severely injured - fell out of the Kazekage's tower as I ercall. When I awoke, I was in Project IZANAGI. That was what they called it, at least. They called me Subject 0, and they used the scroll I just showed you to meld my flesh with these limbs."
He reached up with his right arm and grabbed his left shoulder. With some exertion, he pulled the arm out of the metalic socket that it was attached to - a bar of metal slurping out wetly where the arm attached. All life in the arm immediately ceased. "My nervous system is grafted into these things, and when they're attached they move just like my own limbs." He showed the inputs where his shoulder used to be to the girl before re-socketing his arm. Once in place, he flexed it to show that he once more had control.
"They put in some neat features, which I'll be sure to demonstrate once this seal is off." He added. "Now, they made at least four more like me - different prototypes, but all based off what they did to me. Recently, the Kazekage went missing - that's when I realized that as the first guinea pig of Project IZANAGI, they'd set me up. The attack that injured me, and their subsequent 'saving' of my life, was all orchestrated by that bastard." He finished the sentence with a sneer. "So I torched the place. I don't know where it was, but it and everything in it is ash by now."

| Maka, with her charge in tow, arrived in the prison yard. The six ANBU Medics with her hung back to give them a modicum of space. Upon arriving at the prison yard, Maka continued on just a bit, until the entrance to the prison was in sight. Then, she promptly stopped. "That is most unfortunate.
Without the facility, and the scientists who were in charge of it... there is no one who knows how to fix you, should you suffer an injury and something gets broken.
However, you have definitely come to the right place. Grass is the hub of all scientific progress in the modern world. There is currently no nation more advanced in terms of technology and medicine.
My name is Toshihide Maka.
Your... predicament, it intrigues me.
If you still feel inclined to hand over that scroll, I would be so very appreciative. With such a thing in my possession, I could be of as much use to you as you have been to me." Maka's eye caught movement. Sure enough, the ANBU Medic from before was approaching. Behind him, the same ANBU that had taken over as the owner of the seal on Kairai Masuna. One of the ANBU Medics with her exchanged a nod with the owner of Masuna's seal. "Here he is.
I have something to say, before you are released.
With your body in the condition it is in, you will undoubtedly require irregular maintenance. Particularly if you intend to return to the career of a shinobi.
Cybernetics is not one of my specialties. However, I will study the scroll and perform my own research. In time, I will be proficient enough to reverse the procedure, should you decide to have the cybernetics removed.
In the meantime, I would like to offer Laboratory Town to you. It is a place of scientific refuge. A place where scientists, and indeed experimental subjects such as yourself, can be safe form persecution and free from the politics of Hidden Grass.
There, a select few of my colleagues as well as myself will be able to act as mechanics for you, should you be injured or require maintenance. In addition, you will be allowed to partake of the many scientific marvels that the scientists of the Land of Grass have to offer." She waved the ANBU near. |

"So long as I can come and go as I please, you've got a deal." Masuna stated, revealing the scroll from earlier. "You've kept your end of the bargain so far. Here's mine." He said, offering the Jussaku scroll to Maka. "I've grown accustomed to these things so I don't want to lose them, but I wouldn't mind having some upgrades performed if you think your mechanics are skilled enough." He stated, a slight grin across his face.
"Give me a target, and I may even show you everything I'm capable of."
Jutsu on ScrollJussaku no Jutsu | Artifice Technique A technique developed by the medical and puppetry shinobi that created Masuna, this technique uses the principles of Kugutsu no Jutsu and medical techniques to meld flesh and inanimate material together. It is an extremely long and painful process, as it entails reweaving flesh and nervous tissue.

| Upon receiving the scroll, Maka simply tucked it away into her right sleeve. She gave the ANBU a nod, and he immediately closed the distance between himself and Kairai Masuna. Forming the sign to release the technique, the ANBU touched Masuna. The formula seemed to draw itself up into his hand, disappearing from Masuna's skin. With that, he was released from Heavenly Prison. The ANBU then stepped back, and was waved off by Maka. "Don't be a stranger, now. The scientists of Laboratory Town could use a little muscle in acquiring subjects for research. You may have a lucrative career opportunity in sore for you there. Keep that in mind." Maka turned and gestured to the now open entrance gate. Masuna was free to go, though he would find Laboratory Town (located on the border of the Land of Rain) would welcome him should he seek it out. |

"I'm sure we'll see each other again soon." Masuna said, a slight smile across his face. "Laboratory town, right? Any of you boys know the way?" He said, looking at the ANBU around him. "Yeah? Alright, take me there." He began following the one ANBU who could direct him to his location.
It's time for some upgrades.
