Jinchūriki of the Shukaku, granddaughter to the great puppeteer, Kankurō, apprentice to the late Kazekage, Gaara, and wielder of the iron sand. Heralded as the Sandaime Kazekage reborn, Rinkō is one of the strongest shinobi Sunagakure has ever produced, worthy of the nom de guerre, "Black Death." She is determined, focused, calculating, and driven by her promise to Gaara. Failure is not an option, and she would gladly lay down her life before allowing a mission to fail. Rinkō possesses a genius level of understanding when it comes to jutsu, having replicated several notable techniques from history as well as creating a few of her own, most prominent of which would be her Shimetsuton, or Annihilation Release.
After an attack by the Bijūtsukai she nearly died when the Ichibi was extracted. It was only thanks to Shu sealing her into his body that she was even able to survive. As a result of the mental attack she endured during the battle, Rinkō entered a comatose state for the past couple of months. It was not until Shu felt distressed did her natural instincts to protect him allowed her to awaken, albeit minimally. After that incident Shu dived deep into her subconsciousness and searched for her until he was finally able to bring her back.
Still devoted to upholding her promise of being Shu's "oasis," she has embraced her situation with open arms. In fact, she relishes the opportunity to study this new "reverse jinchūriki" state. There are many things about Shu's behavior that she does not like, but she knows that change is a slow process. She also refuses to inhibit his newly gained freedom, and in turn his happiness. Instead, she simply serves as a moral compass for the tanuki, offering various other, often less violent, suggestions to accomplish his goals.
In her new "reverse jinchūriki" state Rinkō has access to all of her old abilities, namely her kekkei genkai and kekkei tōta. However, she can only manifest herself by taking control of one of Shu's sand clones, which grants her even more power than if she were using her own body. When controlling the sand clone she can utilize and manipulate sand, just like Shu, as well as being nearly impervious to physical damage. The new body also affords her a great deal of added strength, which comes in handy should her defenses be surpassed.
If necessary, she can utilize the Tanukitsuki to call upon attributes from her physical body. In theory she could return to a human state, but that often seems needlessly dangerous. She also has access to any of the other abilities awarded to Shu via Tanukitsuki.
